Kicking off a hat-trick of Stuart Bullen reviews, he has taken a look at Beez's fan-service friendly sci-fi adventure Stratos 4 #1. This DVD is out now in the UK.<ul class="menu">"Not a bad first volume, the action side is disappointing, leaning too heavily on a weak concept and poor execution that fails to stir any excitement, these scenes do a serviceable enough job but we’re only a couple of episodes down the line and it’s already wearing a bit thin. The more chaste anime fan may find the fan service too much of a grudge to bear but it isn’t that noticeable and certainly won’t weaken your enjoyment of an otherwise surprising and curiously addictive series."</ul><a href="http://www.animeuknews.net/viewreview.php?showreview=139">Read the full review</a>.

What is it with reviewers on here and there hatred of fan service? Even very light fan service like in this?

I wish there was English credits on this... About the only thing Beez do wrong, but most of the problems is with Bandai USA.

Hatred is a strong word and there is certainly none of that around here.

Also, there is no hidden agenda against fan-service, but to be fair, it tends to be far more consistent in the medicore to bad shows. Kiddy Grade, Love Hina, Najica et all; basically, series loved exclusively by anime fans, with little to no outside appeal.

I’d just like to point out that in the review I never actually say the fan service detracts from the quality of the show, I just felt it was important to mention, just read the sunmmary if you don't believe me. Plus I don’t hate it, my love for Ikki Tosen and Battle Vixens is well known. :)
