A hauntingly powerful ending to an excellent series, Saikano #3 pulls out all the stops to ensure that no viewer can remain unmoved by the tragic events that befall the main characters. Provided you have a box of tissues handy, this is a highly recommended series that must surely rank amongst the top UK releases of 2006.

Agree with this review? What do you think of Saikano (She, The Ultimate Weapon) #3?

Jo seems to rate this as one of the best series of the year; I haven't seen Saikano myself, though I know a few people who absolutely adored (and cried!) about the show - on the other hand, I've also seen comments about it being intentionally tear-jerking and melodramatic. Seems like a bit of a love-or-hate kind of show, and those are usually the best!

I don't have the third volume yet but from the impact the first and second volumes left on me as I watched them I can only hope that the third volume does even better and hopefully gives a somewhat happy ending otherwise I'm going to be depressed all day again like that time I watched Evangelion or Gunslinger Girl.

hmm i've kept away from it due to the fact that most sites reviewed the story as

girl crys

girl moans bout something

girl cries a bit more

moans about something else

repeat till end of series

Isn't that generally the same as saying for example Dragon Ball Z:

Guys fight.

Guys get beaten up.

Guy run away to train.

Guys come back and kick ass.

Stronger boss arrives, repeat all of the above.

My copy of Saikano was delivered this morning and I just finished watching episode nine. I have to say; this series has the same emotional impact on me as Gunslinger Girl did, and that's definately a good thing. I still have four more episodes to go but I get the feeling I won't be let down, I just hope the ending isn't too sad since Gunslinger Girl had me depressed for like a week.

Shinji had a sister?
Same thing in evangelion but I thought that was great, I've read this is really quite good so will need to check it out.

Yup, it's pretty damn good.

I watched the final episode today and I can say that Saikano was worth my money. I'm glad I took the plunge and bought the first volume since in the end it was a worth-while experience. I hope more anime like this gets released, I'm a sucker for this sort of thing.

Remember the OVA is out in January,

The OVA isn't as good as the series, but it's nice to see a bit more of Chise's side of things - I think the series is much more focused on Shuji. Basically, it's one of those things you get only if you really liked he series.
