Elfen Lied was a refreshingly edgy, extreme and raw horror anime that felt unflinchingly up front in it's portrayal of child abuse and ultimate violence. The end result is a sometimes hard to watch bright red roller coaster ride that offsets blood splatter with thought provoking social commentary and romantic tom foolery.

The OAV didn't offer much really, I was a bit disappointed. It would've been ok tagged onto volume 4 but I wouldn't pay for it as a lone release.

I'd like to see someone pick up the manga. But then I've read somewhere on here that it goes little bit hentai-ish once it goes past where the anime finished.

I've just started watching Elfen Lied last night. Watched the first episode and found it pretty interesting so watched upto episode 4.

It's a bit different than i expected and the violence is pretty gory but the story is good. I'll try and watch another few episodes tonight.

I thought the conclusion (I don't know about the OVA, I've not seen it) was pretty awful :\
I loved the first few episodes, I mean it was gore-y and voilence galore (I do sound plesant don't I?) and so on, but when it came to the ending I hated it. 9I don't really want to say anything since I feel that I would end up spoiling it for at least someone)
Luckily for me, I watched the series with my Step-Dad at my Mums, so I didn't have to waste my money on buying any of the DVD's >>;

But of course thats just what I thought.

The OVA just gives a bit more background on the characters, worth the watch. I felt that it should have been given 26 episodes rather than 12 to allow for further devlopment and plot. To me at times it just seemed rushed and didn't expand further on some of the points i would have liked to have seen. Still a top notch series i think.

Manga's still pretty good though.

i need to finish it off, but so far i think maybe if they extended the length of the series it would be better. Isn't the manga longer than the anime series? so wouldn't there be some room for more episodes?

The manga wasnt finished when they started making the anime. The anime only goes upto Volume 6 of the manga which was what the manga was upto at the time, so instead of waiting for the manga they decided to end it there. Also the lilium music box isnt in the manga either, thats something thats only in the anime.

I think it would be good to see another season of Elfen Lied, once you watch the last episode you will see what I mean. The last few episodes to me, while as good as they are, left me feeling "is that it?" which brought me back to my original point of too much story in such as short time. If they expanded into another season/longer series Elfen Lied could have been better character/story wise.

I love the series. It suffered a little from its shortness - which compressed the fundimental question - Who really is the most evil of the two species? - and never really got both sides to that argument (as an aspiring fantasy writer 'evil' races has never sat well with me - it did not here either, especially irreedemable evil races) I could see where the story was going, they just skirted the edge too much.

All the same, what was there was extremely enjoyable, and well worth the price I paid.

I have heard that the anime plot is different to the manga, so I don't think there will be a new series any time soon (if there is one). The ending did leave a lot of things unanswered. When I watched the OVA I thought it might be a conclusion, but I was disappointed. :(

The anime started production before the mangan had finished. Instead of waiting to see what the mange done they went thier own way with the anime and done a different ending.

I dont think they are going to bring out another series. But maybe in the next few months they may think about it if it gets enough attention
