Howdy all!!!!! just got me Taito legends and am playing some of the most fantastic retro games!!!

ie Rainbow islands, Bubble Bobble and *gasp New Zealand Story(Love the music!!!)

Im now wallowing in nostalgia and wondering what your guys fave classic games are here????? Lets talk of the love of classic gaming and sit here content in the knowledge they dont make em like they used too.

also if anyone had a amiga they get bonus points

So yeah discuss away

Let see get ready for a list
My faves are:::
Oscar on the Amiga 32 !
Simon the sorcerer 1 n 2
Pac man, Kikle, Boulder dash, Kirby's Ghost trap, Super mario, Ranma 1/2 Snes, The legend of zelda Nintendo, Street fighter, some old war games xD!

Old-skool arcade games like Metal Slug, King of Fighters, and similar stuff. I feel 2D works better for some genres than 3D.

Aside from that, I still like to play the classic LucasArts adventure games (Monkey Island, Full Throttle etc.), and some other stuff, but not much that can be considered retro. Old, yes, but not retro. At least not yet.

I have an Amiga 500 (with the memory boosted to a whole 1Mb) stashed away under my bed - I don't even know if it still works! I can't remember all of the games but the highlights for me were:

New Zealand Story
Magic Pockets
Lemmings
Zool
Lotus Turbo Challenge 2
James Pond 2: Codename Robocod

I'm really showing my age, aren't I?

^ Not really. I played Zool and Lemmings myself. And I at least know that Magic Pockets was a game by the Bitmap Brothers (who at the time, were kings of the field). Personally I played Xenon 2.

Oooh, and Prince of Persia. People keep talking about "the first prince of persia game" and it always turns out they're talking about Sands of Time. Always throws me off, that one.

That's made me feel better. I think I had Prince ofPersia too, until the floppy disc buggered up. I was a sucker for the platform games. :D

I love those 2D spaceship games where you can button-bash and fire tons of bullets etc at the enemy...
Can't remember names of them...

Similarly, I also didn't mind Star Fox games (e.g. Lylat Wars, but that's a more recent example...) But only the flying part... Barrel Rolls, Summersaults, they were class within the SNES timeline.

Other than that, Sonic and fighting games were my other loves of Retro gaming. Games like Primal Rage some street fighting ones are some I remember...

Is Streets of Rage the one you CAN co-op players and beat the hell outta goons with lead pipes, knifes etc, and do all kinds of moves to them? I also remember a level nearer to the end of the game inside a lift, where most of my kills were chucking them off it... XD
If it is, THAT is my favourite Retro game ever!

It surely is! :D My retro gaming experience was moderately limited to Sonic, but I do remember playing Robocod as well!

best game ever.. Donald duck and the lucky dime capper words can't describe how good tht is. Also does any remember Golden Ax warrior??? is was a total Zelda rip off but was so much better,
Kev

^^^^ interesting avatar isnt it Satoshi Kojima of AJPW fame??

O yes magic pockets was a immense game as was parasol dreams the follow up to rainbow islands.
Aswell as Lemmings gosh a superb game makes me look forward to the PSP remake.. Also ive seen robocod mentioned a few times thats also been done recently on the GBA if im not mistaken.

Man i think im really showing my age if i start talking bout Jet Set Willy and Manic Miner and Elite and Dizzy. Dizzy used to give put me off eating eggs as a child. I saw eggs in a differant light after seeing how heroic Dizzy was.. What a egg...
back in the day on my ole amstrad 464.....cassette all the way and monochrome screen now those were the days...

Yes it is Kojima of all japan fame, and i have too agree about dizzy, that game was ace, there were so many of them tho just how many ways can he save the world? loved his hat though,a man gotta have a good hat

retro...ah yes...probably some of the best games come from this time. Tetris..with its addictive sound track and gameplay i was on it for hours. Golden axe was ok but not something i was on all the time..Streets of rage was great, the classic sonic games both on the mega drive and the game gear where great and also i would say that i miss some of the games on the NES

I am a big advocate of Retro gaming. I actually prefer some of my old games to some of these new-fangled ones. Sure, the Retro games don't have better graphics, but they often have better gameplay; for which there is no substitute.

As for my favorite retro games, I would have to pick Sonic the hedgehog. The little blue dude exploded onto our low-res television screens in 1991, debuting on the Sega master system - one of the most difficult games I have ever played.
