Recent downtime explained

Our apologies after the recent Anime UK News downtime. We exceeded our monthly bandwidth again and used this as an opportunity to move website hosts.

It will take 2 or 3 days for some users to be able to access us on this new server but rest assured, such issues are now well and truely behind us and here's to a bright future! "Normal service" will now be resumed.

Also, we lost posts from Thursday evening (around 8pm) onwards. Sorry about that, I had some real jip restoring these forums last night.

Glad to see everyone back already :)

congrats on getting forum moved then. that's some feat...
Not really, he just has to move the database file over (i think)
It's harder than that. You need to do it properly or the whole forum will get ruined, it's not just a case of cut and paste. So good job, Paul!

It's a lot more complicated than you would imagine Ian. This forum's database is around 50MB and all the automated restore features only support databases up to around 5MB. So basically, I have to either split up the database into around 30 smaller SQL queries or use a program called "Big Dump" (which doesn't sound as amusing at 3am!).
Then keep in mind that I had to convert from two different versions of MySQL, meaning certain parts of the restore didn't work on this new server and basically, you can wave goodbye to a peaceful start to the weekend :)

Thanks for all the kind words, by the way!

There's little to say but to echo everyone else; well done in managing to restore the site to perfection. The site keeps growing and growing it seems, and the forums have just recently started to take off.

Good work, as always.
