Reccomend me some JUMP

shira

Shinigami
I posted about wanting to get started on a new Jump series in another section of the forum, and figured, since I have some spare time, I may aswell ask here for advice. Here's what I like/dislike:

I love Bleach. I'm watching it weekly, and it's probably one of my favorite series'. Samurai ass kicking action is good, and a nice twist with Shinigami, Zanpaktou's etc.

I like Dragonball Z quite alot too. I used to watch it when I was younger. It's fun, and a nice easy watch.

I'm embaressed to admit, I do love Yu Gi Oh. I don't know what it is about Yu Gi Oh that kept me hooked watching it. Something like this would hit the spot.

I used to love Pokémon, but I don't know if its JUMP, and I don't like it much anymore. It's a bit too cheesey.

I don't like One Piece so much. I've only seen 10 episodes but, Luffy really annoyed me. I prefer weapons to super stretchy arms sorry.

I did watch Hunter X Hunter, and it was OKAY. Apperntly, according to Lupus though, I've not seen enough to hit the real core of the plot. The art in this show pissed me off though, and the fact Gon's weapon is a fishing rod (wtf??)

Possibly my favorite series of all time is Death Note, but I doubt that helps at all.

I am after Anime not Manga though. Thanks for any help :) :)

I recommend Claymore, It's not a weekly like the ones you have already seen but it's still JUMP. It's relatively short (26 episodes), compared to OP/HxH/Bleach.

You can also give Gintama or Eyeshield 21 a go. I myself haven't watched Eyeshield, but if you like comedy, Gintama is pretty funny. A few people have told me about Eyeshield but I've never got around to watching it. These two are pretty long though...

I'm quite suprised you havent watched Naruto, or did you just forget to include it?

Haven't seen Naruto. See my main problem with it is, Naruto (Character) looks like such a cock. A ninja in an orange jumpsuit or something? If it wasnt for that, and those ******* whiskers, then i'd be more inclined to give it a shot.

I'd really love something similar to Yu Gi Oh cause I really enjoyed that. Buso Renkin and Rurouni Kenshin tempt me also.

//Edit// And yes, I watched Yu Gi Oh with the 4Kids dub...

How about D.Gray Man?If you enjoyed Bleach I would imagine you would enjoy this,as it still contains all the elements that make up a good shounen series, but with some added depth to it!^_^

I highly reccomend HxH as it is one of the best SJ series out there, also Gon hardly ever uses his fishing rod trust me. It has an amazing story and some of the most well thought out fights i've seen in a series.

I also reccomend my personal favourite anime and SJ series, Yu Yu Hakusho which is also from the same creator as HxH. Bleach actually initially got rejected from SJ because it was too similar to YYH, so more reason you may like it :)

You have to at least <i>try</i> Naruto. Other than that Neuro and Reborn are my favorite modern series that you haven't mentioned already.

As already mentioned, Yu Yu Hakusho is the classic series you should be checking out.

Goes without saying, for me, but you really should check out the manga, too, it's almost universally better, especially for some of the series mentioned (Gintama being the most acute example).

Seeing as your swaying towards sword-fighting shows, I reiterate my recommendation of Claymore. Unlike Buso Renkin and its cross-dressing mask trap thing (Papillon mask), in Claymore you get blond hair, blue eyed babes!

Gintama has quite a bit of sword-fighting and another recommendation would be Yu Yu Hakusho(I don't think it has sword-fighting, but it does have shinigami). Again, I haven't got around to watching it but I'm led to believe it's one of the underated classics of Shonen (along with HxH & OP)

Don't worry, I also fell in love with Yu-Gi-Oh a few years back. I collected all the cards and all that jazz. I remember the day I swapped someone for Luster/Tyrant dragon cards, T'was one of the happiest days...of my week.

I will add all of these to my MAL :)

I started the Manga of Claymore, so i'll probably check that out :) Buso Renkin I hear is good, so i'll look out for it, and D. Gray Man i'll look out for particularly.

Naruto i'm still not sure about. Anyone wanna persuade me to try it?

Rather than try to persuade you to watch the rest of Hunter x Hunter, I will instead entreat you to watch it! Please, sir!

That said, it's easier to read the first few volumes of the manga before switching over to the anime around episode 25.

Have you watched any of Naruto's opening animations? If not, the second one might tempt you to look into the series. The fifth Gintama opening--almost deceitful, though it was--and fourth Reborn opening were enough to pique my interest for the series.

Edit: Oh--if you want to try something that I suspect very few Jump fans have watched, give Whistle a try.

I haven't seen anything Naruto really bar the odd shots that you see around the net. And possibly adverts. That kinda thing. I like the sound of Gintama, but i'm after some nice action-esque thing. Yu Gi Oh/Bleach/Dragonball style.

(I feel like such a kid admitting I love Yu Gi Oh)

Gintama is quite funny. I'd say its worth it. I don't watch it anymore, but I don't regret watching the 70-something episodes I did. Gin is like the antithesis of the regular JUMP hero, heck, all the characters are.

Naruto as a kid is pretty damn amazing. I hate everyone in the show now which is a key point. If the fandom didn't make me so ******* cynical I'd still find Sasuke quite the cool cat and Gaara's TRAGIC STORY incredibly sad. I say its worth it overall, apart from the not that noticeable slow-ness of the story (on the first viewing) it has a fantastic score and some movie-like fights.

One Piece you need to get further with. You have wut? 2 crewmates so far - GIVE ME A FRICKIN' BREAK! On a similar note, HxH is great although I have no idea if you'll be able to watch it if you can't get part 10 episodes of One Piece...* YuYu is by Togishi, creator of HxH.

Eyeshield 21 was insanely cool. It made me like American Football and I sort of pretend to know what the positions are called and what they do when I watch it now. Hiruma was my avatar for a while, and Sena, the protaganist actually, heaven-forbid changes over the course of the series. Another JUMP series from the same studio as ES21 is Kateikyoushi Hitman REBORN! It basically has two types of episode arcs "Introduction(s)/comedy" which are somewhat necessary and become funnier once you have seen the characters true personalities shine through in the "serious" arcs [IMO, Your best bet]

From whom did you hear Buso Renkin was good? They lie. Just watch Rurouni Kenshin; Nobuhiro's good work.

ETA: D.Gray-Man, The first opening (abingdon boys school) is quality, and the show itself [although animated in about four colours] will probably be to your taste. I found it had a similar FMA-esque flare to it, but with supporting characters that resemble Bleach's extravagant cast. FUNimation have licensed it, however, I hear the manga is superior than the anime.

*...Tell a lie, It took me about eight months to watch the first ten episodes of One Piece, and I still took ages until I started loving it around, eh, episode 20? 30? 40?. By 40 you'll be on the strongest arc so far and its impossible not to love.

Why haven't you added BECK? It's what every series needs; A older hero, a male protagonist who slowly progresses at a certain skills, awesome characters, awesome characters who are based on real people, awesome music and an awesome ost, engrish, a female character who isn't a typical romance girl, awesome styles in everything you could possibly imagine (the setting, the characters clothes (which change every episode!), the music videos, etc.), an awesome atmosphere, and.. it's short! It's 26 eps (and there isn't stupid fight scenes between teenagers that last for 10 episodes, it actually progresses quite fast when it gets going), and not 100+ episodes like eyeshield21, d gray man, or gintama.

You should at least try episode one. I can almost guarantee you will like it. There's loads of reasons I just cba explaining because I have told you before but you still didn't watch it..

...because I said I was after something with awesome fight scenes? Also I quite like the idea of tackling another long series like Bleach, thats why I was willing to listen to Naruto. D. Gray Man will probably be the one I aim for.

Also; our music tastes are miles apart.

You obviously didn't stick with HxH long to see amazing **** like this:

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/OvDM2g73uBk&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/OvDM2g73uBk&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Ignore the Japanese Oasis opening.

EDIT: Also, I'd avoid watching D.Gray-man anime, it's full of filler and not worth it in the long run, doesn't matter if the third opening is amazing either.

HxH just wasn't the action I was after. As I say; i'm after something similar to Bleach/Yu Gi OH

Is nobody gonna comment on Naruto??

*cough*

I could go on for a few paragraphs explaining the positives and negatives, again, but I just cannot be bothered doing that. Just watch it...

Prince of Tennis has some pretty cool Bankai.
