The Knapsack Kid movie was a frustrating experience to watch the first time. Every previous story arc has focused on whichever girl is mentioned in the title, so I went into this one expecting it to be about the titular mysterious little girl. That's not the case though. Instead she's more of a plot device who pops up occasionally to perform a specific function. She ends up being a distracting gorilla-in-a-phonebooth, and a lot of the actual story passed me by while I kept waiting for her to reappear.

I kind of wasn't surprised that they didn't deal with her in this arc. I'm used to the novels threading through some longer story beats, and since this plot didn't revolve around Mai I never thought they'd deal with it here. I can see how it would be more annoying for the films though, where that's perhaps not as obvious (yet to see those due to the lack of UK availability...)
