The August 10 edition of "Nikkei Marketing Journal" is said to have reported that the producers of Sunrise's "Tiger & Bunny" anime series are looking into the possibility of doing a second season.

The last episode of the current season will air next month.

To be honest, this doesn't surprise me, considering that according to the same article, the average rating has been 2%, which sets a new standard for programs in the same timeslot. Also, the way the series only has 5/6 episodes left to wrap up Lunatic and Ouroboros...there's no way they can do it.

Somehow this would not be a massive shock. I suspect it was as good as done when they got even more sponsors to come on board for the second OP.

Yeah, I did suddenly notice that amongst others, Bunny was now sponsored by Amazon xD

Funnily enough, in the behind-the-scenes thing, it was said that while the heroes are animated with CGi, the sponsor logos are 2D, so they can easily be replaced or moved around.

Also, the BD discs have apparently been selling really well in Japan.

Mm I thought it was always intended that they could slip out the logos for new ones if it found success in other markets or if there were changes the sponsors needed.

I'm happy there'll be a second season but ;_; more pretty blu-ray singles to buy (I'll buy your local version as well, Andrew <3).

Well, due to the strict product placement laws in the UK, I doubt we'll get Tiger & Bunny on TV here xD
One thing I am curious though is, in the streams the logos are kept intact, but with localised releases, will that change? Will "Amazon.co.jp" become "Amazon.com/uk"? xD

I think that's part of why they have the CG. Theroticaly speaking it's easier to putz around with a model texture to swap out obscuresushidoods.co.jp with Yo! Sushi or blank it entirely if it becomes too much trouble than it is to go Williams Street on the issue.

Also, more Tiger and Bunny is always appreciated. Just as long as they finish some of the arcs (Mostly thinking Tiger's Next Power and the Mr. Maverik arcs)

I was curious about this too as soon as they announced a UK disc release, since usually logos get wiped out entirely for overseas markets rather than painstakingly matched and renegotiated (I can't see many big companies here leaping at the chance to have their precious logos in a relatively obscure boutique cartoon which goes straight to DVD).

My friends and I discussed whether they would strip the logos, somehow manage to retain them thanks to formidable contracts having been arranged, or just replace them with new ones (either made up or for what would be most likely to be local UK anime companies). It could be kind of funny to have UP1 sponsoring Fire Emblem and Kaze logos all over Blue Rose etc...

I don't have television so I'm unaware of any laws - are we really not allowed to have overt product placement? How does that work with US shows and movies on TV? It's a shame if that bars the show from more mainstream success from the outset even before the other factors are considered (like the fact it's got an older, sexier cast and yet is about superheroes, which probably limits its desirability to the usual youth anime networks here).

Ah, double checking on Ofcom's website, product placement is allowed for international programmes. As Tiger & Bunny is made in Japan, and will more than likely be dubbed in America...it's an international programme. And even if it was made in the UK, I guess it'd fall under this clause:
That means the product must be relevant to what the programme is about

If I remember correctly, FUNimation kept in quite a few of the sponsors from the recent Evangelion films.

Nah. They recently changed it. You can have Product Placement, but you need a "P" logo.

Point 1: Wait, DVD's have been anounced?!

Point 2: I'd be hilarious if Sky High was running around with MVM's face o Doom on him

Point 3: At this point, I've about given up on hitting mainstream, We can bairly air anything above pokemon levels of competency without it going south.

Kaze intimated that they had the local home video rights at London Expo earlier in the year, and I expect they plan to do something with them :)

(In this case I specifically said DVDs as I don't buy region B blu-rays; can't imagine it won't have a DVD version of course.)

Oh, really? Any links, I'd be interested in reading more on that.

There was such a marked increase in number/significance of sponsors in the second half, I assumed people had been brought in once it had been deemed "massive success".
