PlayStation Vita sales - really that amazing?

Recently, Sony have announced that since the launch in Japan in December, with the worldwide launch, the PlayStation Vita has now sold 1.2million units. While that sounds impressive, IGN's Keza MacDonald investigates.

So essentially, the Vita did sell worse than the 3DS. However, the reason for the Vita's sales being promoted as amazing, is because Sony didn't set their aims as high as Nintendo did.

Interestings.

I don't think anyone with any sense expects the Vita to outsell the 3DS. Nintendo has long been the king of handhelds and I don't see that changing any time soon because of demographics.

I honestly think the Vita will be seen as a success (by Sony) if it can match the PSP hardware sales and get the attach rate for software up to something sensible

I think the other issue is that expectations for handheld sales have gone down since the 3DS launched. Also the attach rate for Vita at this stage is considerably higher then it was for 3DS

I reckon there's going to be a roll reversal this time... Nintendo's handheld will preform better in Japan, while the PS Vita will do better in the West.
