Phantom ~ Requiem For The Phantom streaming on Funimation

You know it's a slow news day when an announcement is posted by three people. I hereby declare this thread the original and best.

It actually looks quite interesting but I'm already following two shows and that's about all I can cope with!

All the episodes on the Funimation Web Portal are watchable in the UK. It's useful for the Toei series like Fist Of The North Star and Captain Harlock, which are region-locked on Crunchyroll.

Why is it precisely that Funimation can make their entire video catalogue available to UK viewers while other distro's / Anime streaming sites can't?

It needs to be licensed in a country before it may be made available. They're not the copyright holders, so every form of use must be individually negotiated. In light of the expectations these negotiations may take quite a while. Plus the studios must be sure they're going to make more money than they lose by making incorporeal copies available. So yeah, its a slow mechanism.

I think motivation plays a big part too. For most sites, so long as American users are catered for they don't see the need to bother themselves unduly with international viewers. In any case Funimation have put in that extra effort for us living in the UK, so they'll be getting most of my money in DVD purchases to show my appreciation.
