Thanks for a great review as always. I was initally a little turned off by the fanbase, but I think I might check this out now!
I wonder if my lil sis will enjoy it too. Also, 'is the dub any good?'

Why?

Having fans suddenly makes it bad?

Nope, but having bad mannered, vocal and opinionated fans does.

This happens to many popular shows. The one I believe that suffers the most from it is Naruto, but Gurren lagann has it's share of bad fans as well.

And here's my point proven =P

Never said it was you, but if you believe the hat fits you...

TTGL is a great show, I'm getting myself the LE and all, but why does some fans have to try and force everyone else to think it's the greatest thing man-made since bread?

There will always be those who love it and those who hate it. That's a fact. But if the fanbase keeps on acting like this, the more people will be simply put off from watching it.

Is it so wrong to be so extremely passionate about something that you want everyone to come to your way of thinking?

The government does this all the time

Beside what kinds of people get scared off from watching a show because of a hardcore fanbase? Losers that's who

and I'm not sure what they are acting like tbh

Broke into a second topic so we can rant as much as we want without derailing the gurren lagann review.

Being passionate is not the problem, the problem is being reject everyone else's opinion as wrong, calling things you dislike crap and not even offering an opinion as to why and so on.

And this is the sort of thinking that leads to war, massacre, racism and so many great things, isn't it? Except that they aren't great at all.

But in fairness, the issue with government is not that they want force you to think like this or like that. Believe me, even though I was young, I've lived through a dictatorship and I know what censorship really is.

it's not a matter of getting scared. It's more like "if fans are so stupic, so is the show..." kind of attitude that people adopts.

What I've noticed irritates people more than anything else, is the fact its a passion for a singular series, or just a few series without a big knowledge of what they are watching. Dattebayo, the fansubbing group helped immensely with getting Bleach on par with Naruto's fanbase. If everyone watched every genre, had a good understanding of what's good and what's bad and still decide to love a single popular series, despite its flaws, then we'd have some pretty awesome debates on our hands.

To be honest, this is not what irritates me.

What annoys me is the "only series X is good and everything else is crap because I don't like it / don't know it" attitude that some fanbases have.

OFC that there are those dislike something just because it's popular, because they think that by doing so they are cool. These also annoys me.

Wait... whose side are you arguing here?

Perhaps people who are irritated to no end by douchebags online ranting about it, who insult anybody who disagrees with you about anything?

You don't have to act like you're protecting your newborn baby just to prove how loyal you are to a series. For instance - I love Fullmetal Alchemist. It's my favourite manga series, and honestly I think it's one of, if not the best story I've ever read. When it comes to FMA, I'm what you might class as a 'hardcore' fan - I've got the manga, I've got the anime, I've done fanart, and I've got an art book. However, I don't have any desire to make everybody else agree with me, I'm glad they don't, because the world would be a very boring place if they did. However, this doesn't make me any less of a fan of the series then if I was a complete extremist with my opinions, it just means I'm more comfortable in my own opinions and don't require the confirmation of others.

And don't be under the impression that everybody who doesn't like the series you don't like has an aversion to popularity, most of us entirely ignore popularity as a factor and judge anime on it's true values. My favourite series is FMA, it's not like it's scarcely known!

I should have probably added smiley faces a couple of times
there whoopsee

Yeah I guess that's true
but dislikeing something you havn't seen
because of a fan base is much worse

That would take lots of time and effort ugh =P

I actually just saw a Joke about this on zetsobou lolz
so it must happen every

*sigh* Zetsoubou such a great show

I'd probably do what I usually do with most people that irritate me i.e. this kind of person that over-expresses their "passion" for a singular series:

I just plug my ears, scroll past their (usually) one-liner post ("Naruto is awesome because it's cool." Peh!) and/or ignore them.

It's like they dont have an opinion, when everyone actually does - except most of these half-baked "fans" that watch a show because it's "cool" (f***ing sheep) just watch it because someone said so (friends or an advert).
As someone who IS passionate about anime/manga in general, and have a collection of different viewed series/books/models etc. I feel like this kind of person makes the actual fans of (lets use the example before) Naruto, like myself, look stupid. "Naru-tards" is a typical example of that labeling the general fans of the show get because of these prats. (Of course, it's a word used for people madly involved with Naruto series, but when someone says that they watch the series, people with suspect "Naru-tard!" which is pathetic.)

Passion for a series is fine by me. I like my different shows and genres, but I dont boast about it to everyone - I ain't constantly reviving the topic over, and over again - and when I want to express how good a show is, it wont be because someone else likes it.

To me, anime/manga is a niche enough market that if I was going to be put of with a 'fanbase' it would be anime/manga fans in general. It's more of a problem with games, especially because they're increasingly communally interactive. It may have been true that only overweight IT managers and columbine students played Doom (BAM Generalisation!), but since you were there for the single-player, the general obnoxiousness of that fanbase was never as much of an issue as it would be with Halo players a decade later.

Fag Fag Fag Fag Fag.

I get that you all don't really care

Well about anything really.....

But does it not ever annoy you when
someone is posting on a internet forum or whatever else

Sitting around
talking about how one of your favourite things is a pile of ****?

and then sometimes that one person
Draws in a whole bunch of other people who come saying things like
"yeah it is a bunch of ****" or "Its stupid its made for 5 year olds"
or even "I can't see how people like this its just a random pile of crap 1/10"

Would this not infuriate you at all ?
Would it not make you express any form of emotion?
We are suppose to be human after all

This may not be completely the same but say I don't know

You made a party like a get together with music and such
You worked really hard at this party to make friends
It seems like it went well your happy.

you think it all went well afterwards then a couple days later you
hear a bunch of people talking about how much they dislike you
and how you tried to talk to them at the party and it annoyed them
not only that they say the party you worked tirelessly sucked too.

Wouldn't that make you mad?
You were passionate about making friends at this party
and people sit around badmouthing it.

hmm maybe that was a bad example?
But you get what I mean

I agree with what you mean about people just joining the bandwagon and agreeing something's bad especially when they have never seen it, but from what I know, this hasn't happened on the forum at all. Plus no one's actually said "it's ****", it just seems like some of us didn't rate Gurren as highly as you would have liked.

IMO, it was a fair series, it made me laugh a few times and I loved Viral, but overall, it quickly got annoying and weren't anything special to me. Not compared to some of my current favourite animu's atleast.

Also, how come all of your posts are made to look like some sort of untidy poem?

Poems are about passion...eh....right?

Anyway

People will have their favourites and probably would get upset "if" someone else doesnt like it. I'm a huge Bleach fan who doesnt like Naruto. Before you say anything about "...you havent watched it enough you dumbass", let me just say i have. Compared to Bleach, it felt like it was more aimed at kids then teens :p.

I'm glad im not one of those who like's one series but bashes others that arent the same. The great thing about Anime is its diversity, alot of people should do well to remember that. If you like a particular show, there's bound to be something that has the same ideas but goes in a different direction.

The bleach anime is horribly censored and the American manga
so that's definitely aimed at kids
plus the fillers worse MUCH WORSE then naruto
some of them make no sense at all

but whatever

WOW UNELLMAY!?!?

You've finally started to see what you do all the time!

I believe that this represents your example replacing "5" with "10-11" year olds!

so your 10 or 11 then

Mhm. You don't seem to want to accept that peolpe may like Pokemon if they aren't 10 or 11. Is that really so unbelivable?

Bleach is still much more violent than Naruto (the anime isn't that badly censored...), even if Naruto does actually have a death toll.

Naruto has just about the worst fillers I have ever seen in an anime :\ And, hate to sound like I'm teaming up on you here, but you don't seem to be responding are taking into account what anyones posted yet.

I agree here, Naruto's fillers are just plain awful, Bleach's fillers are way better. I mean ideally i wish there was no fillers at all but thems the breaks.

For the main topic though, I try not to let a fan base put me off, i mean i've drawn hate before with my comments about a cetain Gundam universe. At the end of the day, i'm just as bad as them if i let them sway me.
