Parasite Eve - *sigh* When Squareenix made good games

I can already smell a flamewar... And 'it' might be done to death. But Squareexnix (or Squaresoft at the time) made great games.

Apart from the milk to death of Final Fantasy, there were excellent games that Squaresoft made. So I like to bring this game up...

Parasite Eve. As we all know, Chrono Trigger and it's sequel, Cross was brought up to death a lot. And many people were talking about it, especially my friend from the course we are on, so I downloaded Parasite Eve and started playing it.

Apart from it's dated Mechanics, all I can say is "Holy ****...". Walking around with the D-Pad was bad and ruined games such as Resi. But what was excellent that it is set in the Police Squad (original), give it a twisted and horror plot (original) and weird mutations (original). Okay, they were 'done' before, but it's original for Square.

And you can't literally beat this opening. It's creepy yet awesome at the same time.

So far, I love it. The plot is gripping, the FMV does a good job of creeping you out with its weird mutations and the explanation about the mitochondria seems a 'lot' interesting than the t-virus.

I'm actually glad there is a spin-off to the Parasite Eve series on the PSP (The Third Birthday). But it would be nice to see more games like this from Square.
 
i agree squaresoft did make some games which were overshadowed by the final fantasy series, i just recently completed chrono cross for the first time myself and loved it, i'm surprised how many people hate on it.

Parasite eve is an excellet game albeit a short one, number 2 is a vast improvement IMO but both are still great games.
 
I really enjoyed PE. PE2 didn't grab me and I didn't even notice the PSP one (oops). But the first game was one I remember very fondly. It's particularly nice as I don't really like horror games (they tend to be boring) and dislike the interfaces in games like RE. But Parasite Eve catered for rubbish players like me by adding more RPG elements and a quirky plot and cast.

I remember that one, was only able to play it for a little while since i was lending it off a friend. Had a nice combat system from what i can recall

I might be the only person, but I didn't enjoy Vagrant Story at all. The battle system didn't grip me as much, plus so far, the story seemed... boring to me. I lost the game however and I would like to try it again.

But last time I played it, I was... disappointed.
 
I never played Parasite Eve for it was never released in Europe and at the time I wasn't aware of chipping consoles and whatnot. I did, however, play and enjoy PE2 - which did receive a European release - a game that was cut from the same cloth as Resident Evil. Come to think of it, I never did beat that wanker of a final boss.
