Via a press release, Optimum Releasing (a.k.a Optimum Asia) have announced that they have acquired two new anime movies for UK DVD release on 3rd September; Jin-Roh and Bravestory. More information (copied from the press release) included below:
  • 3 SEPTEMBER: ANIME CLASSICS

    JIN-RO - The multi-award winning Jin-Roh was created by the prestigious anime studio Production IG,­ the team that produced Ghost In The Shell, GITS Stand Alone Complex, Patlabor and the animated sequence in Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill. A UK premiere.

    BRAVE STORY - Brave Story is directed by Koichi Chigira of Full Metal Panic, and produced by Gonzo, the studio responsible for such high profile anime as Samurai 7, Hellsing and Gantz. A UK premiere.

Brave Story is an absolutely brilliant movie and I look forward to getting the UK version when it comes out :).

I'm looking forward to Gonzo's other movie, Gin-iro no Kami no Agito, being released here as well. Not that I've seen it yet, I'm going to watch it in the first day of the coming half term. Really looking forward to that : )
 
Haven't seen Bravestory myself, but I'm really looking forward to it. Jin-roh is a very understated, mature movie with some beautiful animation and a thought provoking story.

Anyway, I'm really pleased Optimum are continuing to look outside of Ghibli for their movies. I was worried VHD: Bloodlust was just a one-off, but clearly they intend to release some quality anime in the UK - and their releases are excellent too, especially the number of extras they look to get on their discs. Fingers crossed for an Oshii interview on Jin-Roh.
 
Really cool news. Optimum generally do a good job with their DVDs so these are something I'll be looking forward to. :D
 
Jin-Roh! It's about damn time! Been wondering if we'd ever see this over here. Not familiar with Brave Story, though I am now intrigued...
