One Piece Messed Up?

Death Scythe
While I was browsing some forums I found a link to a number of Funimation information from a recent con... some of these were:

-Five to six episodes of One Piece have been completed.
-Four directors are working on the series, including Zach Bolton and Caitlin Glass.
-One Piece will be released in box sets similar to Naruto.
-While FUNimation does not know yet for sure, they think they will have access to the widescreen versions of the later One Piece episodes.
-The songs in One Piece will be dubbed.

So I read down the list and found the last one... Now, I can only hope this doesn't mean it will be dubbed permenantly, and there better be a Japanese option on there or this is a no sale... I was really looking forward to this; well I would be if Funimation hadn't lied to everyone and given false hope about having the series from the start, but I was going to wait until they got it off Viz. I can only think on the positive side of things though, so I hope we have some news soon..

Don't Funi dub alot of their songs? Fruit's Basket OP, Burst Angel ED, etc. Those had the japanese versions on their DVDs so I'm guessing it'd be the same with One Piece.

FUNi do that all the time. They provide the Japanese dub song when viewing in Japanese and an English version when watching the English dub. It doesn't happen for every release but where they can they will do that. For the record, the songs in BECK have been redone for the English dub but the Japanese versions are still in the Japanese dub.

now you mention it, FMP and tsubasa are the only funi releases i have that they didn't dub

Though it would be better to keep it in Japanese Language. Though as long as they carry both, I'm not bothered.

As for one piece. I'm interested in watching the Jap version. Since the english dub was messed up, and it was edited.

The dub is for TV AIRINGS ONLY, and if not, there's always a Japanese language option on DVD. Anyway, it's not like you should really care, the songs will just be dubbed and FUNi will do their BEST to keep to the original as possible, unless you're some Japanese elitist guy who's all "lol dubs sux"

Meh, I say dubs aren't as enjoyable as Subs, though there are a few exception (FMA, Chrono Crusade, etc)

And DaNime, I think Paul should apoint you as news guy. You've been emerging with loads of news.

Hear, hear!

Japanese elitists really get on my nerves - the vast majority of them can't even comprehend the language in any real way at all and yet they maintain that dubs are always weaker, and that it's silly to listen to them. I think their problem lies with the Westernization of anime, really.

Plus the fact Anime isn't fully mainstream even in America. But Dubs are getting better and better, its just that Anime fans don't have patience and instead watch the Fansubs.

No fansubs = Lack of Japanese elitists

dvd tv release it will be at least a year after the us before we gets it, and anyway didn't 4 kids redub the original One Piece OP Song & decided against it for the stupid Gi-go Gi-go Rap
