obsessions

Animefreak17

Godhand
over the years iv seen people thats really really really in to stuff like for E.g.
star trek
pokemon
dragon ball z
star wars
football
ect

im not taking about watching anime or reading manga and stuff like that, im talking about people who are obsessed about 1 obsession e.g.
back in the day 10 years ago everyone was in to pokemon and after a while everyone would move on to the next thing but there would be a few people who would still be in to pokemon
and iv seen videos of there hobbies like posters, dvds, models, t-shirts,books and 10 years later there still in to pokemon obsessed as ever

i my self was a big fan of pokemon till half way though the second gen. then i want towards dragon ball z iv watched the show so many times and played the games uptill the 3rd tenkaichi games, then i watched yugioh and played the card game and i got to say it was a really fun game then i stopped watching it half-way though GX the first series was awesome but the second series i couldn't couldn't give any credit.

anyways you'll find people who are still obsessed about one obsession like the e.gs iv told told you about

IMPOSTER!

Seriously though, even though no question for discussion has actually been asked and there is no reason this couldn't have gone in AF's chat thread, I'll bite.

I don't really think I have any true obsessions, I'm into a lot of things, but none of them compare to the level that some hardcore fanboys are into stuff. Generally I'll have obsessive bursts round about the time of a new release related to that fandom, I'll probably be screaming "AVENGERSAVENGERSAVENGERSAVENGERSAVENGERS" come mid-april for example.

However, they are fluctuating 'obsessions' so I don't think they can really be called that. I don't really know anyone who's properly obsessed with something either, except maybe one of my online friends, they seem to talk about the Tales (as in 'of Symphonia') series all the time with little else entering into it.

I'm honestly not sure why I responded to this post... lol

i dont think its healthy to be in to something years after a show has ended. i mean look at dragon ball z, too fans, how many of you can remember what happens in the series thanks to the series and games. dont get me wrong im a fan of the show but having to buy the new game with the same characters and story line, i wouldn't mind if it was like dragon ball online or dragon ball heroes at least theres a new story and new characters.

I don't think I'm ever without obsession. I can spend weeks watching anime in my free time to stop and not watch any for several months, but while I'm not doing that I'll be obsessing over something else like certain computer games, music or Warhammer. And then I'll forget those ever existed and go on to something else, or back to anime. I think it's just in my character to obsess over something for a while and then get incredibly tired of it, want nothing to do with it for a while and start on something else... I often wish this attitude didn't also extend to people and jobs.

This, this, a thousand times this!

I have a very obsessive personality and always have had. My friends are the same way, and even my father and some relatives are too, and I always find it easier to relate to people who jump into hobbies with (perhaps too much) passion over people who play it cool. So long as it's not hurting anyone I think it's awesome that there are grandparents out there with 200 different Pikachu plushes and so on :D

no no im talking about extreme extreme obsessions

e.g. the are loads of star trek fans out there and they'll have everything posters, masks, models learning the klinghan language, even a real klinghan wedding for crying out loud, only concentrating on star trek.

thats the sort of obsession im talking about

Hmm, I don't see anything weirder about having a Klingon wedding performed in authentic Klingon with everyone wearing rubber masks and wielding bat'leths, compared to the silliness of a lot of 'proper' weddings, where everyone pretends to be Christian for a couple of hours and people throw confetti at other people in suits. The 'obsessed' people just have a more structured type of madness :)

lol yeah i believe that to be true

Chen Taijiquan is my obsession :)

Though it is a very healthy obsession, of course. But, I am pretty uncompromising when it comes to it, and so I hardly even attempt to balance it with a social life any more (especially when I have other things I'm also working on).

It's just my personality type. I know I'm going to be completely obsessed with something, so I really have to make sure it's a healthy something. And thankfully the martial arts and particularly Taiji always appealed to me, and actually rewards an extent of obsession!

I'm pretty sure it runs in my family, as my dad's fairly OCD and apparently my grandmother was too. lol, so I'm trying to use my slight OCD to my advantage.

How come I must know where obsession needs to go? How come I must know where the passion hides its feeling?

Also Pokémon. I got my first game on Christmas in 1999 and have been hooked since. When a new pair of games comes out, I have to have BOTH versions on launch day!

"Now let me fill you in. I'm leading this expedition and we're going to climb both peaks of Mount Kilimanjaro."
