ICv2 now hosts an interview with Viz Vice President of Sales Gonzalo Ferreyra, and Director of Retail Marketing David Rewalt regarding Viz's planned Naruto manga release blitz.
The interview concentrates on marketing strategy and business, but does confirm that one motivation for Viz's increased release speed is to combat the availability of pirate and unlicensed translations.

The fact that Naruto Anime Is like a year behind the Jap release is amazing, and yet were only getting season 4 now, & to make matters worse we will probably have to wait an even longer time for the uncut DVDs to reach The Hurricane Chronicles Stage of the story, cause it looks like Manga [or Viz if we're waiting on the US] Are just gonna release it as a season a year, those lazy Bastards, thats if Manga even bother to sign the deal for the rest of the series.

The manga itself I am like 2 volumes behind currently [to be got on Saturday] awaiting the final push for the rest.

Actually, it looks like the anime releases are speeding up, there's only three months between the third and fourth set. And for three disc sets, I think that's reasonable.

It's interesting to note that they confirm they intend to launch a similar Naruto manga blitz in Europe too; whether or not that includes the UK is up for debate, but it's worth thinking about none the less.

Yeah, I'd love to hear his line on why they're removing Shaman King from Shonen Jump and why they started Bo^7 at the END of a fight (ch 110) and only one chapter of that.

Clearly, thier plan for combating the pirates is to both Infurate and confuse both them and those who actauly buy JUMP into submission, which may work for BoBoBo, but does not realy apply all that well in Real life.

Apparently, towards the end of this year, Viz are beginning UK publishing partnering with Simon and Schuster. It appears they are doing a Tanoshimi style multi-volume per month release at the outset. Whether or not that will continue is unknown but I suspect it will until they have caught the US releases.

I don't see the much point as most manga that is out in the US is instantly transported to here as imports.

I'm looking at my SJ collection rite now & All have the Viz Media logo on them. And most of them I got from Forbidden planet.

Just because you import manga does not mean everyone does. Having localised publication of the manga means it will see distribution in mainstream bookstores as well as specialist outlets.

Since the vast majority of people are either completely unaware of the likes of Forbidden Planet or do not necessarily associate with comics and/or manga coupled with the simple fact that there are a great many more mainstream bookstores then comic shops means that manga gets a greatly improved visibility than it currently has.

With that in mind there is every use to local publication of the manga regardless of what it means to you personally.
