A hint to those of you struggling. This guy was also after the philosopher's stone and made an appearance in Harry Potter.

Hehe, you're the second to come up with this. Let me try being clearer. His name is mentioned on the first Harry Potter book / movie.
 
This is a tough one because, going on Choas' first hint, there are any number of characters that can be the answer:

Albus sent Hargrid after the stone at the start, the teacher with the turban was trying to help Voldermort get it and Harry, Ron and jailbait all tried to get the stone to stop Voldermort getting it. And all of the characters were introduced in the first book.

This is troublesome. If Choas' had hinted that the original owner is the name than that'd be different. I'm going with Hagrid myself.
 
WRT to the hint, Aion spotted a detail which might confuse some.

The historical person was after the philosopher's stone.
In Harry Potter he had a different relationship with it. Hope, I didn't get people too much confused.
 
Some people are confusing alchemist with greek gods of medicine. In fairness, the symbols are pretty similar...
 
I have never read/seen any Potter (I know...) so I can't tell if people are joking or being serious, which gives this whole thread a strangely surreal air.

Cool prize again. Fortunately I already have FMA so don't have to glare balefully at the winners :)
