New Anime Releases 24/12/2012

I was genuinely considering a purchase of Persona 4 until I read JPT's review.

Once again Kaze can only manage one subtitle stream at a time, which results in most on-screen text not being subtitled while watching the Japanese track. And locked subtitles again. And no song subtitles either. Sloppy. I'd honesty rather buy Sentai's dub-only disc than spend money on Kaze's "effort", as at least the problems with that release are outside of Sentai's control.

The UK Anime review said the subtitles were "mostly top-notch" o_O

I was considering just waiting for Sentai's inevitable complete set with the JP dub.
I'll at least buy box 1, but depending on how I find this release I may just wait for the R1 complete collection.
That will probably be out by the time Kaze finish putting it out here.
The only plus I'll give them is White subs > Yellow subs.

I hope anime limited's releases aren't going to be crippled like Kaze's, we don't need another company offering inferior releases here.

I'm kinda sad about how the dub for P4 has been handled. I watched the first 7(?) episodes a while back dubbed.
From small things like "I am a shadow, the true self!" being rewritten to "I am a shadow, of my true inner self!", to new voice actors for Chie, Teddie, Naoto and for eps 14+ only, Kanji.
I personally also felt that the dub was not on the level of the game dub, and some of the dialogue felt unnatural and... just not right.

Anyway, enough complaining, Persona 4 and Berserk collectors edition for me this week.

That would be the best option. But I'm with you on the subtitle colour; I really dislike Sentai's big bright yellow subs, which makes me even more disappointed that Kaze can't get it right.

FYI I will be using the same video team behind NISA's releases in the USA - video and subtitle quality is super important to me and as I control the whole workflow this is a lot easier to ensure.

That's awesome, I really hope you guys aim to be the NISA of the UK; they have stellar packaging, some great licenses and they form my favourite purchases of 2012! I have high hopes :)

I would freaking LOVE a NISA-style company in the UK.

Your a super hunk Andrew.

What do peeps think about the Berserk movie? Worth all the hype? I watched that 10 minutes preview of it, and it seemed a bit mediocre from what I saw...

Going to pass on persona 4 and get the two sets from sentai because of shelf space. Is Gintama any good ? Isn't tales of verspia meant to be out this week as well? Will watch the berserk series first before I pick up the films so I understand what's going on.

Tales of Vesperia came out at the start of the month.

I'll be getting Persona and Gintama at some point. I'm backlogged to hell right now (including ToV), but I'm sure I'll get around to getting them one day.

Berserk CE is in the post somewhere and probably won't arrive until new year, I also intend to get Gintama but it will have to wait until feb/march.

I'm starting to get super exited now, though it still seems like the 1st release is a long ways off.

As for this week releases, nothing's jumping out, i'm getting a slight vibe that if other are excited about a title I should check it out but overall I think i'll be passing on these releases, at least for now.

Edit: Spoke too soon, the BR had a smudge on it (I'll attribute this to the lose disk in the packaging and let this one slide).

Speaking of packaging, please stop using the pinball flipper cases. They are an inescapable death trap for any disc caught in it. I mean thank goodness it was the DVDs that are in that but it's no fun geting them out.

Not to imply anything but does that happen to also mean you're looking at N1 titles too?

Might be worth revisiting the fact that Hanabee knew about Anime Ltd long before the rest of us, and they have Toradora and Arakawa...

My current biggest wants from the NISA stable are Toradora, Denpa Onna and Anohana.

Oh the Sub lock is geting annoying, yes, thank you video, I didn't need to know how much Chie was splashing out for her lunch during the wacky chase scene (and if I did, I would have liked it in £ or €, don't be lazy about this stuff if you're going to lock it, guys.)
