New Anime Releases 05/05/2013

Pre-ordered Penguindrum just on Friday there after watching the unboxing video by Manga. I'd been interested but I wasn't sure, then I saw how lovely it looked. I hope the series is as good as I've heard ^-^

That does actually look quite neat and tidy, they used mono-awesome artwork for the disc covers (the covers from JP volumes 3-5) so you would expect that to carry over to the second set release too. Tempted to buy it to avoid vomiting if I watch Sentai's attempt to release the show on BD.

And don't worry, the show is amazing!
 
Excellent! I didn't want to impulse buy but that art style is gorgeous and then with the beautiful set....sold! I love the Code Geass releases so I was happy to see this got the same treatment. Having an opportunity to show off more artwork always gets me.

On that note, I love Manga's unboxing videos. It's nice to have a little look at what you're getting if you're on the fence about buying.

Makes me wary of buying anything Sentai upfront now, wonder if I should cancel my K-on Movie order for now?

Not too sure about Penguindrum but I figure lets give it a go and register for Sainsbury's too

K-On movie is fine, says 1080p on the back of the box, not 1080i. All I've read so far is that it's NOT sub locked, has some mistranslated text about 30 minutes in and apparently in the dub they drop the use of honorifics.
If you're that wary of Sentai's discs, look on Amazon.com when the boxart goes up and check the back of the box for 1080i/p.
Sentai have also only put out two sub locked titles so far being Rurouni Kenshin and Inu X Boku, and they have said they will state when they have to sub lock releases.
I'm not 100% ready to give up on them yet, but they have screwed up so much lately - their most recent example being the audio on episode 11 of Kids on the Slope. Let's hope MVM/Hanabee fixes it.
 
I went into HMV this afternoon and they had three copies of Penguindrum without any price sticker.... I'd've grabbed it if I knew it was cheaper than Amazon!
 
My local HMV is really small and never really has much anime (besides Bleach). If the latest stuff is there it's usually like one copy of it. No Penguindrum for definite.
 
Went back again today and got one of the four copies. Still no price tags, but it was indeed £16.99.
The slipcover is an awfully tight fit.
