I've been finding it devilishly difficult to figure out which UK blu-rays are region free in general. Most don't seem to know or put it on the packaging, even mainstream films! If in doubt I have to always buy the imports so it's their loss.

Origin has always looked mildly interesting and the added prettiness might finally persuade me to give it a try, so I guess I'll make my pilgrimage to HMV on Monday to see if Manga know that blu-rays have regions.

I have everything else there except Gunparade March, which I don't want.

afaik, if they are region locked they *must* put the region on the packaging, so if you can't see a region "symbol" then it's region free.

Hmm, I just wish I could know for sure without spending the money.

Your explanation makes sense. I'd have thought being region free would be a selling point though...

I have a copy of Origin (received it yesterday from hmv.com), and looking at the back cover I can't see a region symbol, so my guess is that it's region free.

Origin: Spirits Of The Past
Wait, what?

Last time I bothered to notice, Origin was scheduled for sometime in winter - or even 2010. Now it's coming out before Innocence, which is coming out before GITS 2.0... Manga's blu-ray schedule seems to have turned completely on it's head. It might have just been the retailers being cautious I guess, but it does seem odd how less well liked titles like Afro Samurai and Origin are coming out before Manga's big hitters like Ghost in The Shell.

Additional: I should add that if GITS 2.0 is being pushed back in order to include the original though, I'll be very happy to wait for it. Very happy.

Received my copy of Origin in the post today. Got it from HMV for £10.99. Not bad when it is out next Monday and has a RRP of £24.99.

Already own Gunparade March, Desert Punk and all three seasons of Slayers when they were released on region 1.

What's Gunparade March like? I haven't found many reviews, and admittedly didn't even know of the show's existence until today.

I bought Origins from the London MCM expo and then in the industry panel they go and announce they're releasing it in Blu-ray. I was annoyed.
I watched it and didn't really think it was all that good...

Well there you go

It has been a while since I have watched Gunparade March. Compared to other Mecha shows like NGE, Rahxephon it is not as good.

I would maybe rate it 6 out of 10

If you want reviews here are some links. The first three American sites while the last one is a UK one.

Anyone know if Origin is region free?

You can change release region up the top. Granted, the UK release of Origin isn't up there yet, but I am sure it will be soon.
Oh yeah, I know about that site, cheers though. Just thought someone might actually have the info.

I'll probably order it anyway since it's so cheap at HMV and apparently has no region sticker on.

I quite likes the first volume of Gunparade March, although admittedly more for the visuals than the content.

Cheers mangaman. Sounds like I've been missing little, especially since there's other post-2000 mecha series I could be watching instead.
