New anime publisher appears in the US: New Galaxy Anime

With all the doom and gloom surrounding the US anime industry following the virtual collapse of publishing goliath Geneon, one would be fair to assume that this perhaps isn't the best of times to enter the industry, but that hasn't stopped "<a href="http://newgalaxyanime.com/">New Galaxy Anime</a>"; a new anime DVD publisher based in California with plans to "specialize in family-friendly fare, particularly of the shoujo genre. Releasing rare, vintage titles with high nostalgic value " The new company's press release also states that "anime is a form of entertainment, but it is also a form of art", essentially <a href="http://newgalaxyanime.com/about.html">reassuring</a> fans that they intend to release all of their anime as subtitled and dubbed with (little or) no edits.
New Galaxy Anime's first release will be "The Fantastic Adventures of Unico", a 1981-dated movie directed by the god-of-manga himself, Osamu Tezuka.

Interesting. Well if they ever pick up somthing I like then I guess I'll see for myself how good they are. I wonder if it means we'll be seeing they're stuff in the UK through any company :?

Does this mean some hope for more Lupin III? I hope so!

I was originally going to say I highly doubt that, but then again I think Lupin is a family orientated anime? Isn't it? So maybe there's some chance; although I think the license is already split between different companies. Geneon has some of the TV series and I think Funimation have the movies. So actually yeah I think it's probably a big fat no =(

Ha, no. Damn, missed the family orientated part. However it's still a rare, vintage title with high nostalgic value so maybe. :)

I know it's asking a lot (and probably won't happen) but someone needs to redo Cardcaptor Sakura seeing as it fits the bill nicely and is quite disjointed with its DVDs.

I think Geneon did a fantastic job with the series and movies.

A remastered version is what the series needs. The video quality of the DVDs is not terrible, but it could be better, and a lot of anime are getting remastered by the Japanese, so I can't see why it couldn't happen.

This has "Crash and Burn", "Sell jack crap" and "Doesn't matter what I think cuz it'll never get a uk realease because we live in Europe and our media is controlled by Nazis" writtian all over it.

I agree with the last of those. ;)
But I know that the Unico movies – much like the Toei Little Mermaid – have something of a cult following in America, as they released there on dubbed VHS. The first feature film is pretty standard kodomo fare (if still slightly on dark/surreal side) but the second is really trippy, with some rather Laloux-like scenes which are quite genuinely scary.
Still, being Region 1, it's of negligible interest to me. I'd far prefer that someone released the original 2-volume manga.
