I don't agree with most of these choices. I'm glad that Madoka Magica got recognised. Manga winning is predictable. I don't agree with Blue Exorcist and Naruto winning their awards. My favourite manga publisher of the year, Seven Seas, was not even a nomination if I remember rightly.

I registered purely because I had to agree with you completely!

These awards were more like “which of our advertisers do you prefer”.

Don't think Manga have had much competition recently. Don't see that changing much. Think they'll release more than anyone else this year too.

Just out of interest though who would you have picked for the awards.

Concerning just anime and manga my choices would be:

Best Anime - Clannad / Clannad After Story
Best Franchise - One Piece
Best Manga - Ouran High School Host Club (final volume came out in 2012)
Best Anime Movie - Arrietty
Best Manga Distributor - Seven Seas
Best Anime Distributor - Manga Entertainment (As you say, there's very little choice, other than MVM.)

Some good picks, trouble is this is the general public voting so I doubt Clannad as good as it is stood a chance, surprising that a sub only release won tbh, gives hope for future sub only shows.

Best Franchise could only be between Naruto and Bleach really, given they haven't given us One Piece yet.

I too am annoyed that Seven Seas were overlooked on best Manga Distributor, they had some companies i'd never heard of yet skip Seven Seas?

My picks would've been thus.

Anime: Madoka
Manga: Natsume's Book of Friends
Anime movie: Arriety
Anime distributer: MVM. Despite the credit card details fiasco, they have more I'm interested in than Manga and their Deal of the Week is awesome.
Manga distributor: Vertical, although I am also annoyed that Seven Seas wasn't on the list when Sweatdrop was...
Franchise: Blue Exorcist. I'm glad to see sub only releases here.

Only one of these I agree with is Neo's choice, which is odd I usually can't bring myself to agree with anything they write normally.

Dont agree with much of that list, but i guess the lack of choices listed on the form filled in didn't help, some obvious better choices did not get included.

The neo award and distributor ones are probbly the only ones i agree with.

Nintendo is probably the only winner on that list I agree with. Especially as frankly, the last half of Blue Exorcist was crap Satan falling for a human girl? What the heck?.

Yen Press has to be my favourite manga publisher, with Seven Seas in second.

Not like there isn't a precedent for that. Satan is considered one of the "sons of God" after all.

I'm not remotely religious as you know, but the mythology can be quite interesting (also, it can be satisfying to expose the fact that some religious people don't actually know their own beliefs).

I'm guessing this only applies to UK anime releases from last year, hence the poor choice of winners in the anime related categories. This seems more like a popularity contest than a 'Best' award.
Also Manga as the best Anime Distributor? Why am I not surprised, more like pretty much the only anime distributor.

Best Asian Movie Distributor - MVM Entertainment

What's that about?!

Third Window easily. Himizu, Tetsuo, Love Exposure Blu and Adrift in Tokyo. Don't need to say anymore

First off thank you for the announcements, as I struggle to get NeoMag!

Suprise, suprise that Naruto won... again...
And I can't believe FF XIII-2 won! I mean what the frak! Should of been MGS HD!

But then I decided to have a look at animuk as tokyotoys didn't win (which I was shocked about but makes a change) and I've seen posts in the past about how tokyotoys sell nothing but fake stuff (which is partly rubbish allegation) but why did a site that stats to sell '100% merch' when it clearly doesn't! It's 100% fake bootleg! At least tokyotoys sponsors events at MCM expos, donates profit to charaties (like the Japan tsunami disaster) do massive give out at shows and I heard that they don't go to the conventions any more because they don't want to step on the other sellers toes.
The few members of my anime society I've asked have never heard of animuk so how did they win it?

Hi There,
Whilst we can't comment on the merchandise sold by other companies, we can clearly state that all of our merchandise is officially licensed. To state that a company sells "100% fake bootleg" is a rather bold statement and does not appear to be backed up by any examples of products you believe to be fake. All of our products are sourced from reputable wholesalers who have a direct relationship with well known manufacturers such as GE Animation, Bandai, Abystyle amongst others.

We're a little suspicious about this post in so much as you have only signed up today, and the bulk of your post content is a direct attempt to discredit AnimUK. We're a small company that has only been trading for just over a year, but we do have a reputation for only selling official merchandise which may have been a factor in us winning the award. It did come as a surprise, but it does go to show that UK consumers are informed about where the product has come from and are perhaps more able to spot the difference between fake and official merchandise.

If anyone has any queries as to the nature of our products, we will gladly answer them and clear up any doubts that they may have.

I was frankly wondering if DaftSheep was a Tokyopop shill before I read your post.
I don't recall hearing anything about AnimUK, good or bad.

I can tell a bootleg DVD a mile away and I'm generally dubious about wallscrolls but I have absolutely no idea how to tell from an online listing if a Naruto headband is legit.

I hadn't heard about AnimUK much before either, but it's good to see not only a strong line against bootlegs but also a far more dignified rebuttal than the previous post probably deserved!

DaftSheep, I'd be interested to hear which of their items are obviously bootlegs, too, because I took a look and nothing jumped out in the same blatantly obvious way as they do for that certain other shop which you seem weirdly positive about - it's certainly not the 100% you claim. It doesn't make any sense for you to criticise one place for alleged bootlegs while glossing over the same thing from another. Unless you have a hidden agenda.

Good to hear that the certain other shop whose name I don't like to mention has decided that they "don't go to the conventions any more because they don't want to step on the other sellers toes". That makes a double whammy of good news for UK-based anime fans in this thread already.
