NEED HELP!!!

Erm, you could try Ergo Proxy. I'd say its better than GitS to be honest, though (maybe the length of GitS just got to me).

Ergo Proxy's a good recommendation so I'll second that. You could check out other series from Masamune Shirow as well. Maybe Appleseed or something?

What in particular did you like about Ghost in the Shell? It might help us think of some more good titles you might like.
 
I assume you have watched GITS, GITS 2, Stand alone complex, 2nd Gig and Solid state society?

If so, i recommend,
Apple Seed, and New dominion Tank police (also Shirow)

Ergo Proxy is ok, The classic Akira's also worth a look too. You may also like Fullmetal Alchemist which is more Steampunk than cyber punk.

Older stuff:
Cyber City Oedo 808 is pretty interesting
 
yeah i have all 3 GITS movies and 2nd GIG, just not the 1st series :(

ermm its anime but in a csi sort of way, the movies are outstanding and altho they need to be watched 2 times atleast to understand them properly, they are really great stories.
 
yeah, i know the 2nd gig boxset can come with a mini tachikoma, but already have the series so buying it a 2nd time isnt worth it lol
 
I have't specifically looked for a Tachikoma myself, but Up1.co.uk are generally good for models (from what I've seen) and the like.

CSI?

You tried the Patlabor movies. Lots of mind **** investigation topped off with mech battles. Animation wouldnt be to the high standard of GitS though
 
I have the models from the R1 releases of 1st and 2nd gig and a tachikoma plush from otaku.co.uk not sure if they might have a model.

As for similar things I second, Appleseed and Patlabour, Gunslinger Girl might be worth a go. Not quite as good but possibly worth a watch are Heat Guy J and Burst Angel.

You tried the Patlabor movies. Lots of mind **** investigation topped off with mech battles. Animation wouldnt be to the high standard of GitS though

Yeah, just checking. It was what made me think of patlabor. Actually I think ill go watch them again :D
