The story of Masashi Kishimoto's long-running and world-famous Naruto manga series was finally drawn to a close last year with the publication of its final chapter in the Weekly Shonen Jump anthology magazine but today's JUMP Festa event has unveiled plans for the franchise to continue beyond the recently released Boruto: Naruto The Movie with a brand new manga series and anime adaptation.

Starting in Spring 2016, Weekly Shonen Jump will publish a brand new monthly manga simply titled Boruto, which as the name implies, centres around the son of original protagonist Naruto Uzumaki. The series will be written by Ukyō Kodachi and illustrated by Mikio Ikemoto under the supervision of original creator Masashi Kishimoto. Kodachi previously assisted with the screenplay for Boruto: Naruto The Movie and penned the epilogue novel Naruto - Gaara's Hidden Story: Sandstorm Illusion, while Ikemoto served as an assistant on the original Naruto manga. Masashi Kishimoto himself will also be writing a Boruto one-shot to be published in the same period.

Spring will also be the season of new beginnings for the anime, following the announcement Takashi Yano's The True Legend Of Itachi two-part novel is being adapted into a television anime titled Naruto Shippuden: The True Legend Of Itachi Volume - Light And Darkness -. Amazon's official synopsis for the novel series is as follows:

Itachi Uchiha, age four. After seeing what occurs on the battlefield up close, he makes a certain decision. He decided that he would change the world. The dream that Itachi aimed for. His dream: A Hokage from the Uchiha clan, and a future where those he loved could live in peace. His time in the ninja academy, his meeting with Shisui, becoming a Genin, Chunin, and finally a member of the Anbu... Itachi ran straight down a path of glory, not knowing that a cruel darkness was spreading...
This is the story of the glory, frustration, and determination of the ninja called a genius.

VIz Media released Masashi Kishimoto's original manga in English and started the publication of Shuiesha's epilogue novel series this November with Naruto: Kakashi's Story. The anime adaptation is currently available courtesy of Manga Entertamnent, who released Boruto: Naruto The Movie in cinemas for a limited time last month.

Honestly, I couldn't care less, and it's a real shame. I have loved the anime, watched it from almost the beginning weekly, but unfortunately not the manga and it always felt too late to - more fool me for not doing so. The farce of endless fillers at this point has completely turned me off the franchise and any spinoffs it spawns.

I'm interested enough in Itachi to watch a series about him. I'm looking forward to Boruto as JUMP has a Naruto sized hole that nothing has filled for me yet.
