According to the latest issue of NEO magazine, MVM have picked up Witchblade and Black Lagoon for UK DVD releases. It's expected that these new anime acquisitions (and possibly a few more surprises) will be confirmed in full at this weekend's London MCM Expo.

Both Witchblade (animated by Gonzo and based on a popular American comic book) and Black Lagoon (animated by Madhouse) first aired in Japan during 2006; in particular, the latter is a highly regarded and action packed series eagerly anticipated by fans the world over.

I'm really glad Black Lagoon is getting picked up, and fairly quickly. I think I'll hold out on the R1 versions now. Although the R1 metal tin case thingy is impressive.

if black lagoon is picked up im off to cancel my up1 orders.

hopefully it wont be too long before volumes 2 and 3 are released, i'll wait for a r2 release rather than r1.

Unless you have had it on order for a while (since before the end of September) you are unlikely to get it anytime soon since Geneon have officially stopped US distribution of all titles until further notice. This is good news for those who are interested in this series but missed the boat when Geneon shut up shop.

^_^ cool! I was wondering when MVM would say they've got somthing new. They've been rather quiet over the summer. But I do wish they would look beyond GONZO a bit. I mean GONZO shows have a habit of going boring half way through. >_>
Meh more anime on DVD from anywhere is never a bad thing so I shouldn't compain.

EDIT: Hang on does this mean MVM are going to continue licensing from Geneon even though they're not producing any more DVDs?

Black Lagoon, yes! 8) It's about time it got picked up. Superb series all round, can't wait. Can't say I'm as excited about Witchblade though, while from what I saw it was fairly entertaining it didn't look as if it was going anywhere special. Still, may be worth checking out.

I'm relieved about Black Lagoon - after the Geneon fisco I was worried about not only the R2 but the R1 (I was going to import the latter until I read this thread).

that was pretty fast for MVM to pick these titles up..especially Witchblade...it just came out a few weeks ago in the US...
Too bad i ordered the starter set of Witchblade just a few days ago...i kind of liked witchblade...had good animation, simple story..and was based on an american comic for a change...turned out ok...also not forgetting the fanservice...lol.
i was suprised Rev-Films didnt pick up Witchblade, as it is a Funimation title.
As for Black Lagoon...i keep hearing good thigns about this show..i've only watched the first ep of it...i thought it was alright for the first episode....will have to watch more of it before i consider it a purchase.

It's first and foremost a Gonzo title - which means that it has to be licensed directly from Japan rather than through R1. On past form MVM picking up Witchblade is no surprise (they have all the other recent Funi Gonzo titles)

I'm actually kind of suprised, and very happy, that MVM have Black Lagoon too. At the last Expo, MVM seemed to think that releasing it would be a problem because Madman don't have the R4 rights, and then Geneon's problems created complications too.

Geneon have simply ceased the production of DVDs and their distribution. Their licencing arm and to a slightly lesser extent their subtitling and dubbing arm still exists. How long the latter will exist without R1 distribution remains to be seen but they have committed to produce the dubs and subtitles for a number of existing licences.

Hmmm I just ordered Black Lagoon thinking it would be unavailable in the future. Matter not, I still get the metal casing :D and I'll just start from vol. 4 of MVM releases if they stick the same amount of episodes on each disk as the R1 release.

Lets see, Witchblade...poorly defined fanservice show, whoopie. I wonder if MVM are just grabbing at Gonzo stuff to keep afloat.

And three words astowords Black Lagaoon; Licence Fire Sale.

According to a post over at AoD MVM have also licensed Shana and Love Hina Again, whilst Manga have licensed more Naruto and the up coming Strait Jacket OVA..

Shana is encouraging; we may get the English language version of the OVA, which is in limbo in the US with Geneon's current state of affairs. Love Hina Again is a bit of a surprise given how unenthused Tony was about that when asked last year.

i seen a espiode of witchblade and it isn't looking that great! i tought that it would be better to be honest with u! i would rather mvm would license karin instead! or kiddy grade 2 after it gets picked up by the americans!
