Red XIII

Straw Hat Pirate
The first poll for 2006 is here, and it's time to decide what you're most looking forward to in the new year. Appropriately for January, there are several new series on their way- Burst Angel, FMP Fumoffu, GITS: SAC 2nd Gig, Cyborg 009 and the oft-delayed Project A-Ko.

As always, however, there are plenty of continuing volumes, this time around for FMA, Gantz, Peace Maker, Get Backers (may have been delayed), Planetes, ROD TV. s-CRY-ed and Robotech, together with the closing volumes of Haibane Renmei and Witch Hunter Robin. And last of all, we can expect a couple more Ghibli movies in the form of Pom Poko and Porco Rosso.

As I already have Haibane and WHR, the three titles I'm most looking forward to are FMA, ROD TV and SAC 2nd Gig (it's a close thing, but I'll cast my vote for ROD). I'll also get around to checking out Gantz, Burst Angel and Fumoffu and I'm quite curious to see what s-CRY-ed #5 has in store, although I'm not nursing high hopes for it.

I ended up siding with Haibane Renmei, the final episodes of what is one of the best (and most underrated) series of recent times.

Can anybody who gets 2nd Gig people tell me if there are any technical faults this time(subtitles, audio glitches and so on). I'm buying the US releases anyway but i'm just curious if manga got their act together this time.

Anyway I already have Robin(naturally), R.O.D, Full Metal Alchemist and Renmei. Just waiting on Innocence that comes out in february as far as UK releases go. :)

Hmm, I wouldn't mention the series as underrated considering 90% of reviews for it are overwhelming postive, and almost half of people who have rated it on ANN give it a "masterpiece" rating. Underwatched, perhaps.

All the titles that interest me in the poll - WHR, ROD, Haibane, FMA, Robotech, s-CRY-ed, Fumoffu, Gantz, Peacemaker, Porco Rosso, Planetes and 2nd GIG I have acquired or made plans to acquire; I would visit Pom Poko if the concept of racoons with expanding genitals didn't scare me. I may pick up Burst Angel, though, mainly so I can finally make sense of my bizarre love for the design of one of the leads, Sei.

Underrated ;) I suppose we interpret the phrase "underrated" differently, I'd say it's underrated because it hasn't been rated enough, though I firmly believe that as the years pass, the reputation of Haibane will only continue to grow.

i have to say that FUMOFFU has my attention...as i have been after it for some time, so now i can actually see it. i'll just have to get the rest of the FMP! first series before i do though

I suppose you're right. Again. Damn. Although, to be fair, my trust of any of those reviews ended with the Texhnolyze travesty.

Grrr, Haibane has been delayed YET AGAIN!

So now it has dropped from November through to the end of january. it just better get out then or i shall start complaining!

If I hadn't already seen Haibane Renmei that would have been my vote. While I'm looking forward to fumoffu and ROD TV, the thing I'm most interested in seeing is the start of 2nd Gig. I just hope it'll still be as enjoyable as the 1st...

ha ha this is a funny story i was watchinh haibane renmei vol1 and my lil brother came in (now keep in kind he only has to see blood and he faints right little wimp.lol) and it came to the part were her wings come through and he just threw up all over himself (im laughing just thinking about it now.lol)

The final, notoriously delayed Haibane conclusion without a doubt - I just love that series and can't wait to see how it turns out.

R.O.D. the TV #4 comes in at a close second though - #3 ended on quite a cliffhanger! GitS SAC 2nd #1 is also worth waiting for, but I'm still waiting for my 1st gig box set to arrive so I'll make my mind up on that later.

OT, but Crikey... UK Anime Net gave Grave of the Fireflies 4 out of 10? The rest of their reviews seem to be not far off the mark, but 4 out of 10 is just crazy talk.

Obviously i'm waiting for Pom Poko / Porco Rosso primarily. Not as much as I'm awaiting the other Ghibli movies actually. They certainly seem a pair of the most oddball movies from the studio.

Dont. Please don't. I haven't seen too many series, but FMP (original) ranks as the worst anime series I've ever seen. Dire, generic, no-plot nonsense with one-dimensional characters, its just awful. There are a handful of good moments in it (some of the behemoth story arc, Gaurons's capture, the tragic episode 17) that save it from getting a 0/5. For me its a 1/5. Avoid it like the plague!

Or not. Its up to you.

Witch Hunter Robin for me. Nice style, nice soundtrack, nice characters. I could watch it all day.
In fact once I get the final volume I possibly will :p

Full Metal Panic? Fumoffu! for me. I'd only seen the first episode of the first season of the show (thanks to Newtype USA) when this series was being shown in Japan, and I started to watch the fans subs as they were coming out. I absolutely adored it despite not having seen the original, so ended up buying the first season art box and first few DVDs from Canada, and then them one by one as they came out (I should have waited for the UK release, but I was too impaitent and desperately wanted the art box). Then when Fumoffu! was released in North America I ended up importing it despite having seen the episodes numerous times back before it was licensed. I usually wait for UK releases, but with FMP! it would have been too hard to wait.

Other than Fumoffu!, Haibane is another I desperately need to get. It's such a moving series.
