Monster - really needs to be on UK tv!

Great Teacher
I'm really suprised no big channels are'nt sniffing about Monster.

I think FX or BBC4 should pick it up, both have experimented with foreign television such as Spiral and Matrioski, if they can pick up stuff from France/Belgium why not Japan?

I don't really want it to be on animecentral (no offence) but it's challenging, gripping and clever. It aired on Canal Plus in France their equivelant to HBO/Sky.

It's due to be made into a Hollywood movie, from the team that did History of Violence and Eastern Promises. This really could work on UK tv.

You do know the anime has not been licensed and therefore has no dub. I think it should be some time before all this happens.

Looking forward to see how the movies turn out though.

It doesn't have to be licensed to air on UK tv, it would depend on the channel going directly to the Japanese distribution wing and negotiating a deal.

I don't really care if it's dubbed or not, Spiral and Matrioski were subtitled, I think fans of these shows could take it. I really think this show could get a cult following in the UK, it just deals with more darker ethical subject matter than the anime on UK tv at this moment.

Not that I'm not criticising the anime on UK tv now....... I'm saying it wouldn't fit in with the current line up.

Monster doesn't stand a chance of getting on UK TV without a dub. Sure, Japanese movies have been shown on TV, but there's quite a difference between a movie and a 50+ episode series.

I haven't seen Monster, but everybody that has seems to rave about it, so I really should get around to watching it sometime. What's the manga like?

It's good, I read some of it a while ago, though I much prefered the manga-ka's other series: 20th Century Boys.
Seconded. Can't wait for 20th Century Boys to start being released as soon as Monster's finished.

Also, no way is Monster gonna end up on UKTV if the US market couldn't manage it.

The anime adapation of Monster is a faithful as you'll get with manga to anime adaptions. Apart from some scenes being put in a different order the manga pretty much acts as a storyboard for the anime. Very faithful.

Master Keaton is another series i'm watching of his at the moment as well ,which is highly entertaining in every aspect. I might make a more detailed post on it sometime.

I'm pretty sure Spiral (French drama) was subbed.

The UK and America are not joined on at the hip, this really annoys me!

I'd like to see UK look outside the US for once. If someone had the balls to put this on, I could see this gain a cult following. The Hollywood adaption will get this anime series licensed it's really only a matter of time.

It would be interesting if a UK channel did buy it and dub it, then again we could only hope. Makes a change from annoying cheesy American accents.

(oh by the way I'm no dub hater I just think sometimes that the American accents feel out of place with some of the settings)

Haven't read the manga but the anime is pretty unique. It's deadly serious 99% of the time and takes a while building the plot rather than going for quickfire thrills every episode. Some people I know have been thrown by this, but it's so worth seeing it through.

It's a very smart, almost unusually sophisticated anime. Think Death-Note with a stronger historical basis and none of the supernatural antics.
