Memories

For those who've watched this can someone tell me what Stink Bomb and Cannon fodder have to do with the theme of memories?

I just thought that was the title of the film! I never thought of it as a set theme.

Umm... maybe they're all Katsuhiro Otomo's memories as they're based on his older work? *struggles*

Isn't there an interview with Otomo on the DVD? He might answer your question... I'm baffled too.

Already watched it and nuh uh. I think I heard about this on the Anime World Order podcast.

Yeah, I think this too!

The centrepiece of the release is very obviously Magnetic Rose, so maybe that's where the title comes from?

I'm guessing it's akin to a music album in which the title is derived from a 'title track' or inspired by one of the songs, even though it's not necessarily referring to any of the others. In this case it could be related to the 'memories' of the lead character in the Magnetic Rose segment as Citizengeek suggested.

Whatever the reason is, it doesn't alter the fact that it's a set of three excellent and innovative films! I really need to give it a rewatch actually...

Indeed! It's a fantastic set! Of the three, Stink Bomb is absolutely my favorite. I suppose I just expected too much of Magnetic Rose, but whatever the case it certainly didn't live up to the hype. Stink Bomb, however, is very funny (in a clever way!) with a subtle message and great animation. I quite liked Cannon Fodder, too - but it was way too short!

Strangely, I am rather apathetic on this. I got it yonks ago. Magnetic Rose seemed incomplete, Stink Bomb was silly (I can take funny, but it was just silly) and Cannon, while a rather good arty piece, never really got me thinking of the reasons behind it. Slightly disapointed I was.

Have to say I loved it, and some what typically Magnetic Rose was my favourite of the three. That said, they're all great films, perhaps not everyones thing, but a fine collection all the same.
