Manga Girl's request: What anime image defines Neo Tokyo?

Hello everyone

I'm writing an article at uni and I would appreciate your help. I'm trying to find an image from a popular anime series which sums up what anime fans think Tokyo is like. Obvious Neo Tokyo images from the Ghost in the Shell opening sequence spring to mind, but there may be others I've overlooked.

If you could post the website link of where you found the image, that would be a great help too.

As many of us have never been to Tokyo and our portal into the metropolis is through anime, I thought it would be interesting to find out how anime defines our image of the city.

Your help would be kindly welcome. :)

I think Outlawstars Akira images fit perfectly! :]

@Gacha, what anime is that still from? It's very pretty! O:

No idea look more like concept art to something i stuck neo tokyo in google image and that picture seemed to sum up what i thinking nicely.

Apparently Tokyo Godfathers is fairly accurate representation of proper 'real life' Tokyo, but in terms of a Neo Tokyo Akira's pretty much it imo. I must be old fashioned in my tastes, lol.

Cheating because I've been to the real one quite a few times but what springs to mind for me are the early scenes from Paradise Kiss episode 1 (perhaps the opening as well? I can't remember). Doubly cheating as IIRC they were from photos too but they really reminded me of being there.

Also 5cm/second had some wonderful scenes. The rabbit warren of Shinjuku station is a very strong image even if it isn't the skyline!

When it comes to the more futuristic style of things, Ghost in the shell and Akira i'd say picture Tokyo well, but as for how anime depicts it with other series, If i remember, the likes of Kanon has area's drawn nearly exactly like certain areas, or landmarks in Tokyo.
Also when thinking Tokyo in anime, Genshiken popped into my head, i guess thats because it is based around Tokyo if i'm not mistaken, and in a way, it does give another view on the city than you wouldn't get from a typical drama series or whatever, since its based around otakus and how they live there lives in the city.

This. That movie had some absolutely amazing scenes in it, not sure about it being an image of Neo Tokyo, as when I think of that I think of Cyberpunk, such as Ghost in the Shell and Akira which have been mentioned, as well as anime which may not be based in Tokyo but may be based around it, such as Ergo Proxy or The Big O.

GITS is probably the most obvious anime representaion of Neo Tokyo but I'd say that 'Bubblegum Crisis' and 'Dirty Pair Flash' give very strong images of Cyberpunk Tokyo and 'Burst Angel' is worthy of a mention too.

Tokyo IS cyberpunk city though. Once the sun goes down it's really like being in Bladerunner. I'm lucky enough to have been there only 48 hours ago. Kabukicho at 4am is nuts!
