Manga finally did it!

Yes it seems Manga Entertainment have finally managed to release a DVD with absolutely no problems at all, this is no doubt down to Viz Media's assistance. I'm talking about the volume 1 release of Death Note which I was pleasently surprised with the quality all round. Let's have a run through...

1. The video transfer is absolutely perfect as far as I can tell. There are no errors in the encoding that put the video and audio out of sync. The same goes for the audio.

2. The subtitles are a translation of the Japanese language and not dubtitles.

3. This is perhaps the first time EVER that I've seen SIGN SUBS on a Manga Ent DVD. Usually these are omitted and becomes very annoying whilst watching a dubbed version when japanese text appears on screen untranslated.

4. Nice artwork for the cover, menus and so on.

5. The fact that we got two DVDs in one set rather than releasing one DVD at a time and what's more doing it for a affordable price.

6. A decent selection of extras. Rather than just the usual Opening and Closing without credits and Trailers there are also several audio commentaries, interviews and behind the scenes footage from both English and Japanese production staff.

I hope the Death Note releases keep up this high quality and I'll continue to buy them. I hope their other releases match the standard this release has set.

I'll also mention that I found the dub to be excellent and even go as far as saying that L's voice in English is A LOT better than it is in Japanese. However the English Ryuk doesn't pull off his signature laugh and Detective Yagami's dub actor was quite stiff compared to the others *which is a shame because he's my favourite character). Regardless it was still a fantastic dub.

Well done Manga. Just keep it up.

I'll be picking up Death Note vol. 1 pretty soon, so that's all music to my ears! I love extras that feature the US production staff, so those English commentaries are an added bonus! And it's all only €16 on Play.com! ^______^

I don't think the actual commentaries are by the English staff. I'll give you a list of the extras...

- English Voice Actor Interview
- Behind the Scenes
- Japanese Animation Director and Character Designer Interview
- Production Artwork
- Directors Audio Commentary

I haven't had time to go through all the extras yet but it looks like a nice selection to me. If anybody is disappointed with this release then there's something wrong! I seem to remember some people complaining that they were putting 2 volumes into 1 for the UK release... I can't understand why people would complain about that.

It's out? Had no idea, nice to hear Manga's managed a good job this time - in fact it's practically miraculous. Here's hoping they maintain the standard in the following volumes.

The Viz releases in the US DO NOT have a separate signs track.

Manga have actually one-upped the US market.
Zavvi have the LEs with the character figures.

For once the UK rocks.

I don't like Death Note, but I'm going to buy it anyway for obvious reasons. In before witty replies.

Eh, what? What obvious reasons? There are no obvious reasons for paying money for a series you don't like ...

The only thing I'm worried about is if Manga decide to downgrade to single disc releases for future volumes. The Bleach sets are proof that they're willing to do this - three on the first, and two on the second (though I understand this is something to do with the season layout). It's probably useless worrying, but it's possible.

I'm suprised no one mentioned that they giving away Light Action Figures. I was in Zavvi once, and I was gazing at the figures for a while. Seems I wanted them pretty badly...

As for Manga, finally they done it right. And I be getting the Death Note DVD <333

The reason why Bleach was released as 3-disc/2disc sets was because the first arc (series 1) ends at episode 20. At 4 episodes per disc there was really no other choice. The next Bleach set will probably be 3 discs again since the next series is also 20 episodes long and will be subject to the same split.

I was gonna get that but then I thought 'what the hell am I gonna do with a Light figure?' and just got the DVD's.

Probably because they're not giving anything away. You want the figure, you pay an extra £6....which is pretty much standard price for a Trading Arts-size figure anyway.

Isn't the video on the Viz release supposed to have a green tint? The Manga release, as far as I can tell, doesn't have this problem. We have Madman to thank for that.

No idea about that. Every Madman release I've seen has been excellent or beyond so it's not surprising then.

Ah, thanks for clearing that up =)

Wait... It was 16 quid when I saw it in Zavvi. So pratically to me, it was giving it away. 8 episodes, loads of features and a Light action figure... that's good pricing

Eh...£18 at my Zavvi, and £19 on their site. What the hell is that?

It's £12 sans figure on Play, Amazon and HMV online...so no matter how much their charging, it's still in no way a freebie.

Still a good price anyway.

I got it for £17.99 in HMV,
there was about 10 copies there witch is quite a lot considering the anime section is about 4 feet wide.
