2006 marks ten years since Hideki Anno's sci-fi opus Neon Genesis Evangelion hit Japanese TV and caused a revolution within the anime industry. Celebrating the impact left by the show, the (Japan based online newspaper) Mainchi Daily News have published a series of articles looking at the phenomenon of the Evangelion franchise- from it's humble beginnings in the mind of Anno to an interview with producer Toshimichi Otsuki; the main man who helped Anno take the idea and get it on TV.

Some really interesting articles here; information about the making of Evangelion has always fascinated me, it was such a troubled production.

Either way, it's nice to see Evangelion being honoured like this. A real classic of modern anime.

It seems ADV celebrated in their own way by finally releasing the Angelic Days manga. I bought it. 8)

There's always something interesting about that show that you've never heard before - some of the stories have been bandied around endlessly!

It really hammers home the influence the series and movies had on the industry. I'm not sure whether it was Anno's best work outright (he's done some amazing things both before and since) but it's the number of risks and personal stuff that went into it. Eva was a labour of love as well as a commercial success; love it or hate it you can't deny the creators that.

"This year, the 10th since the end of the Evangelion series, Anno and Otsuki are due to join hands again to work together on an anime project for the first time in a while.

It remains to be seen whether they can again come up with a work that exceeds the impact on the manga world that Evangelion managed to achieve. (By Kei Watanabe, Daichi Nakagawa and Tsunehiro Uno)
"

Thank god, Gainax need's Anno back!

If he did a second series of Kare Kano it would be great (I'm not looking forward to being disappointed by the ending of the first one) but the guy's greatest strength is doing something totally unpredictable and wowing us all.

I very much doubt that it will top NGE (possible, but unlikely) but if something does turn up it's going to be interesting!

Ten years of eva, gosh it's hard to think of it as 10 years old. It's a testament to the true greatness of the show that it recieves notage like this 10 years on.
