It looks just like the TV series...
Well, the first 2 films are recaps of the TV series.

There are changes though. Other trailers have shown that some of the scenery (such as Madoka's school) has been redesigned once again. For example:

Ok, let me re-phrase that - the plot doesn't seem to be any different from the TV series.
As for redesigning, etc. From what you posted above, it only seems like they re-ddi the background....

Hmm, I understand the TV to BD upgrade but what's up with the film version changing it again?

You can justify tweaking stuff between TV and BD, eg fleshing out sparse areas, making things reflective that you skimped on before, but that looks like change for the sake of change, or perhaps ticket and BD sales.

The main difference is that George Lucas waited a good decades before re-releasing the film again and he actually waited for new technologies to show up....

The third and final film will be a new original story. I imagine these two movies and the short gap between their releases, is them trying to make Madoka reach an audience who missed the TV airing.

The changes are superfical. I mean it'd be one thing if major changes to the cycle were happening but for the first two movies (given that they're recaps) aren't doing much besides redoing fences aren't they? I mean what are you going to do, make the Witche's Subspace even more crack-tastic?

From the little I actually understand about Japanese anime market, this feels like just a way to milk obsessed fans out, rather than actually getting more fans. Madoka is a niche show and considering it's success, I'm very confident that the fans of that niche already seem it.

Well, it is the Evangelion of Magical Girls in more way than one now.
The final movie has a title: "Hangyaku no Monogatari". Crunchyroll translates this as either "A Tale of Rebellion" or "A Tale of Treason". The movie will open in Japan next year.

But the story won't end there.

Personally, I thought even a third film was pushing it.

To be honest, it will depend on how the third movie ends, if it's amazing (which I will admit will be hard to do) then the new project could be interesting.

I will still admit that I want SHAFT to release Kizumonogatari more.

Personally, considering how amazingly the TV anime ended, I'm looking to, but very apprehensive about, the third movie as it is.

Agreed, there's stuff to follow up with yes, but should they is the real question?

If they wanted to continue the franchise, why not adapt the various spin off mangas or something?

Shinbo is a perfectionist. As I understand, one of the reasons his stuff keeps airing unfinished is he keeps demanding retakes.

As to be expected of someone whos CV has Moonphase on it.
Heh.

So are the Madoka movies intended to supersede the TV series? Are they closer to Shinbo's original vision, which he's able to bring to fruition now that he has the time and budget? If so, I'm kind of wondering what the point of buying the TV series is.
