Over the weekend, ADV announced that Mari Iijima will be reprising her role (as Lynn Minmay) from the original Japanese version of Macross (1982) in the new ADV English dub of the series. Few Japanese voice actors (and actresses) have made this rare transition before, especially in a series as well loved as Macross.

it will be interesting to hear a Japanese Seiyuu providing an English speaking voice, that's for sure! It also suggests that a R1/R2 release of Macross is in the pipeline, which is excellent news!

Its due January on R1 I believe (may be a bit later) , ADV got the rights to it at Anime Expo.

i saw Macross Plus and it was totally amazing, is Macross just like that but as a series?
The closest I've seen is the opening set of Robotech episodes - it's a very old series so the visuals are almost unrecogniseable compared with MP. on the other hand, th original Macross still has the transforming fighters!

Overall, it's quite surprising that there haven't been more Macross films and series released in R2 already. Alongside Gundam, it's one of the classic mecha franchises, and yet most things Macross-related are well nigh impossible to find. I *think* Macross Zero is availablein R1, but I haven't checked yet.

I'd agree with you here; Macross is definatly a classic mecha franchise in the ilk of Gundam, except unlike Gundam it didn't face a Western sprout of interest with the emergance of Wing on television. Even the UK had a short period where Gundam models (although not kits) could be found in shops all around the country; Macross had no such fortune.

Yeah, but Macross doesn't have a plethora of model kits it can sell to the extent of a Gundam series - its just good honest sci-fi from what I've seen. Which is great!

ANN is your friend. :)

according to their news section, the original macross series is out in the States next January!

From what I understand, Macross (or Super Dimentional Fortress Macross) is the original series, and is a firm fan favourite; MacrossZero is a prequel and is also very good; Macross II wasn't made by the original creators and has a bad reputation; Macross 7 consists of several series and films, but is a little inconsistent in quality; Macross Plus is the only one that's out in this country but it's absolutely fantastic.

If all that's left you confused, you're not the only one! ;)

<a href="http://www.mahq.net/animation/macross/macross.htm" traget="_blank">MAHQ's</a> series descriptions and reviews on it should help clear up any confusion.
