Maaya Sakamoto and Yoko Kanno Live Unplugged

Sy

Time-Traveller
I managed to get hold of this radio recording from 2004 of unplugged performances by Maaya Sakamoto and Yoko Kanno. I think Maaya has a fantastic and natural voice, Yoko is an exceptional songwriter and this is just a wonderful show that I thought I'd share. My favourite performance has got to be the acoustic version of Night.

I cropped the special so it's just the main show and some talking sections between songs.

The song Yoko Kanno is messing around with on track 8 is 'Park Amsterdam' by the way.

Hope you enjoy it, since shows involving performances of Yoko Kanno's material are pretty hard to come by. :)

This is awesome. Incidentally, has anyone heard Kanno's "Other Side of Midnight" soundtrack? It's definitely on a par with her anime work.

No doubt about that. Killing the Christmas Killer and Fado are my favourites off of that CD. Most of the Yoko Kanno soundtracks or related CD's that are soundtracks for films or series I've never even seen or even some that I didn't even like but loved the soundtrack she wrote (example being Arjuna).

Paul, you should check out the 'Ashura-jo no Hitomi' soundtrack, I has two of my top Kanno pieces on it. 'Are Hanamichi' and 'Blues in my Heaven'. Song to Fly is an amazing CD as well. 'ABC Mouse Parade', 'The man in the desert' and 'Next Time' are in my personal best as well. She's released so much amazing music.

Her piano solo on the Cowboy Bebop CD boxset is a must hear. There are videos of it uploaded on youtube.

I'll upload the Otakon Piano Recital soon.

Here's some more live Yoko. :)

Just finished listening to the Maaya and Kanno live stuff, and thought it was great. Night is definitely a favourite from that performance as well. Many thanks for that!

Stunning. I've saved the second lot onto my mp3 player to listen to on the way to my exam tomorrow. :)

Oddly, the Shounen Alice songs make my transfer program crash - the same thing happened when I tried transferring the Paprika OST songs a while back. Is it a copyright thing? They look like normal mp3 files...

I doubt it because I made those MP3 files myself from a larger one and that was just recoded off of the radio.

Probably the ID3 tags, for some of the Shonen Alice songs there wasn't an artist copied in.

I've heard Song to Fly and you've pretty much picked out my favorites too. "The man in the desert" is probably my pick from that album, it's simply an epic song. Also, Kissing the Christmas Killer my favorite from The Other Side of Midnight. I definitely haven't heard "Ashura-jo no Hitomi" though.

If I was pushed, I'd have to say I love her work during those few years when she somehow composed Escaflowne, Macross Plus and Cowboy Bebop. Just listening to "Voices" on that Otakon recital, that's an amazing song.

It's probably a quirk of my player/software then - that's Sony for you.

Anyways, the songs themselves are fantastic. They remind me a bit of Ai Maeda's efforts of Kino's Journey..crossed with Tori Amos. I'll have to track down a CD of her stuff...

Thanks again for sharing!
