LukasROAR needs your help!

LukasROAR

Straw Hat Pirate
Right, just finished watching Neon Genesis for like the billionth time and need something new but i have no idea which series to buy next, so i wondered if any of you can help me.

Here's a few of my fave series' so you can have a guess at what else i like
Cowboy Bebop, NGE, Blue Gender, Gungrave, Texhnolyze, Gilgamesh.

Usually i'd just pick one up off the shelf that i liked the look of but until i get my student loan i gotta choose carefully.
I really like shows that have a good blend of action and issues that make you think deeply and wonder. Something that will definitely keep me watching and guessing and not try and be too funny.

Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thank you :D

GitS SAC hands down. Both series just... wow.

Or Full Metal Panic, the first series. The second one's quite short and a bit more comedic. Still good though.

If you liked Bebop you'll probably like Macross Plus. Same team behind it.

FMP is a good show to watch, but it's about as deep as a puddle.

That is true. Not one to watch when you're stoned out of your box either. ¬_¬

I haven't personally seen them yet.

But I recommend seeing some of Kon's work (Paranoia Agent, Millennium Actress, Perfect Blue. et cetera)

I haven't got much knowledge on these specific genres'. XD.

I'd recommend all three seasons of FMP, great series, one of my personal favourites, and it does get more deeper and darker in the 3rd season. Also Black Lagoon is a good choice as well.

I agree with the Macross Plus reccomendations, it's an excellent series! If you haveb't seen Fullmetal Alchemist, then that fits your "good blend of action and issues that make you think deeply" perfectly! ^_^

I’d definitely second the suggestions of Macross Plus and GITS SAC I. Both pretty much meet all the requirements that you have listed, most notably they’re available for very low cost but provide a good few hours of entertainment. In fact I keep meaning to pick up Macross Plus myself as it’s a cracker for around just ten quid.

Can't go wrong with Eureka 7
Except perhaps that he'd need to take out a mortgage to buy it? That might apply to FMA too.

I'd have to say the GITS:GIGS myself. I'm crazy about them. If you think that mite not be your cup of tea, I'd suggest Elfen Lied. Just finished watching it and really enjoyed it.

Give it a go I say :D

Elfen Lied was decent. I'd also say Black Lagoon for fansubs or R1 DVD's if you wanted.

A fantastic show that i just remembered that meets your requirements is Zipang. Cracker of a show, good action, fantastic soundtrack and the story does have depth and meaning.

To add something new to the fray i'd say Serial Experiments Lain, but only cause i am a total fanboy of it! Very artsy anime exploring the infulence of the net, very wierd but i got totally engrossed and watched the entire series in a couple of days.

Fullmetal Alchemist is a classic as well, if a little long at 50 odd episodes. Its not that it drags on or anything, its just a very long series.

I recommend Elfen lied and Requiem of darkness pretty decent animes with a lot of violence
Hmm, not gonna comment of Elfen Lied, but Requiem from the Darkness (Hundred Stories) is a series I don't see recommended enough...

Thanks guys, just borrowed GITS: SAC
So thats first to watch on my list but i'm gunna watch all of what you've suggested eventually and let you know what i think of them.

Really liking GITS: SAC so far, not too fond of the childish speaking robot shorts lol but the rest is pretty cool. Looking forward to seeing the rest :)

Thanks everyone for your help.

The Tachikoma's are awesome! Great dub voices too!
In small doses I can deal with them dubbed but for a whole episode it's just too much. More tolerable in Japanese.

One of my favourite episodes is actually a Tachikoma episode.

Aww give the Tachikoma's time and they will grow on you, i was skeptical to begin with but those lil darlings captured my heart!

I can understand if its the dub i suppose but then again im a total sub fanboy so no matter how good the dub is it still hurts my ears. They are easily the deepest characters of the series, plus their music is fantastic! The "Be Human" soundtrack is put on at least once every couple of days :D
