Dandy Guy, in Space
Hey guys I was wondering if you could help. Recently I have been looking for a good romance/slice-of-life/shonen or senin type anime around the mid 90s to 98. Something similar too Maison ikkoku or Ranma, or maybe even Rec.

Note: don't recommend me an anime that is more than 50 episodes long because I got to study!

Kare Kano? It's a bit shoujo-ish and the ending's abrupt but otherwise is the standard against which all others should be judged. 26 eps in total or thereabouts.

Oh no not Kare Kano!

I knew someone was going to say this. Its a good try but but I am looking for something more shonen or senin. Anyway I have seen this shoujo a bit before.

Looks like I have to keep on searching for one.

How about checking out Master Keaton if you can track it down?
Some of the shorter Rumiko Takashi works like "One Pound Gospel" might suit you too. City Hunter has some action but is on the whole very good. GTO? Salaryman Kintarou?

For more slice of life, these are a bit more recent but Human Crossing and Rumiko Takahashi Anthology I enjoyed a lot.

Sports/action series a no-go? Just slower paced stuff?

I sort of ignored your time period specification where convenient and apologies for the lack of romance-focused titles - I don't follow romance aimed at guys so much :)

Other than that...IMO you need to see Video Girl Ai if you haven't, based on your specification.

Oh and it's older but Kimagure Orange Road more or less fits the bill if you've not seen that one yet.

Kimagure Orange Road, Gto seen. Not to bothered of watching another sport show though I have seen suzuka.

Maybe I will try video girl AI again. I think I have seen at least the 1st episode then drop it for some strange reason. Watching that epsode reminded me of chobits. Good thing it looks short.
