Summer Wars, Ponyo, Paprika, Steamboy, Ghost in the Shell 2 - just some of the anime premieres Fanomenon has presented in the last ten years. For 2010 we announce the new Fanomenon Anime Day, showcasing some of the most anticipated new films and scheduled alongside the fantastic Thought Bubble Comic Convention.

The first Fanomenon Anime Day features two giant box office hits, one incredible superspeed galactic epic, and the European Premiere of the first of a brand new anime series. One Piece Film - Strong World and Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance have dominated the Japanese box office in the last year, and the two films are the most acclaimed instalments yet in their movie series. Leeds favourites Katsuhito Ishii and Takeshi Koike are behind the phenomenal racing movie Redline, a must see on the big screen in a packed cinema. And we are delighted to present part one of the Mardock Scramble trilogy, the cyberpunk noir series that has been planned for years and is finally here in Leeds.

Plus an extra special exclusive for everyone attending the Anime Day at Leeds Town Hall - at midday you can see the European Premiere of Gintama the Movie, the first feature based on the popular sci-fi samurai manga.

The full anime day runs from noon to 11pm at Leeds Town Hall on Friday 19th November and includes: Gintama the Movie (noon), One Piece (2pm), Mardock Scramble (4.30pm), Evangelion: 2.0 (6.30pm), and Redline (9pm). Pass for the whole day is just £20, individual tickets are £6.50 / £5.00. All films are repeated, with the exception of Gintama the Movie, at the Hyde Park Picture House on Sunday 21st November from 10am to 6pm, in the same order.

I am tempted by Mardock Scramble.
Whilst the same applies to Evangelion 2.0, I don't believes I'm sufficiently prepared for the experience of watching it on the big screen.

I get that it's being re-run on Sunday (at the very nice little Hyde Park Picture House chaos, ilmaestro and myself saw Angel's Egg and Summer Wars at last year) but to have the main event on a weekday strikes me as rather... how do I put this, insane? A weekday showing excludes the regularly employed and anyone in full time education. Unless the 19th of November is one of these new bank holidays* I've heard about. Put me down as a possible attendee anyway.

*as though banks need to be closed any more often than they are already.

I think I'll go on the 19th for Gintama even though it's a weekday. Might just take a holiday and go. On the 21st, there's a design show in Liverpool, which I was invited and treated to free tickets. No idea if that is going to be any good though. When are you guys going?

Ahh, they're showing the movie for the Benizakura arc of Gintama? Darn it, why didn't we get it too =/ One is not amused, it has to be said. Ah well.

Looking increasingly unlikely that I will be able to get up there this year. :( Really want to go on the Friday, still not impossible, but struggling.

Anyone else going then?
If it's possible to buy tickets on the door for only a single film, I shall make a brief appearance.

Edit: It appears that single tickets can be bought from the Council's website.

Due apologies for the double-post, though I thought I'd update with my confirmation that I've bought a ticket for the film I wished to see. One has to collect it from the town hall on the day, however.

Don't forget there's also Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem being screened for the agreeable price for an SD video projection of FREE at Nation of Shopkeepers on Saturday, 20th at 8:00 PM.

Places are still limited though so it would still be prudent to get a ticket, which as for all of them one can buy at http://www.leedsfilm.com but that requires paying a booking fee (or did last time I used it) and collecting them; if you live in Leeds or are there before it's advisable to get them from the box office of The Carriageworks so that you already have them and can cut the queue on the day. Might also be able to take a sneak at the catalogue while you're there, which provides much more exacting info on formats and individual films than the brochure or the Web sites.

May give the Gin Tama movie a go as I at least enjoyed what little I've seen of the TV and comic and want something light and fun; still not got round to watching a trailer. Numerous friends interested in STRONG WORLD and while it might have seemed almost sure that no one could completely mess up with adapting a comic as animatony as ONE PIECE to animation I've seen a couple of trailers and it looks and sounds annoying. Koike and Madhouse's REDLINE I should be very excited about but even with it days away really don't feel that I have the energy for it and for this at least (and unlike the large majority of the festival each year) there's the safety net of the already-confirmed UK Blu-ray Disc release. Maybe if it was on something better than HDCAM; TSUJI Naoyuki is much more me right now.

Yep. I got my ticket today; that the Gin Tama I have was given to me by people whom got it for free purely on principle of not owning any Gin Tama and without looking at it beyond the cover tells one what the level of Gin Tama love in Leeds is like. :?

I return from my Mardock Scramble scramble. chaos and ayase are presumably still enjoying the other films in the card, with aid of the Haribo and Mountain Dew I saw them purchase.

(I mean not to say this in a scornful tone however — I myself benefit from such confectionery acquisitions, by means of a single Tangfastics cherry sweet being offered as a gift.)

The Haribo sweet was quite delectable, ilmaestro.
Initially sharp, but lingeringly and comfortingly sweet. The sort of confectionery that is welcome to rest upon one's tongue for a fair minute or so.
