Last Exile

Martin

Death Scythe
Just finished watching the first disc (the next will have to wait for next week's pay!), and i have to say it's one of the most well written and imaginative anime series i've seen yet. the animation is astonishing, the characters thoughtfully designed and the bizarre flying machines are something Miyazaki would be proud of. what more could you ask for? it has 'classic' written all over it already.

It's certainly up there with Miyazaki.

There is very little wrong with Last Exile, it's an almost perfectly executed show; from it's lush, structured universe, to the fantastic charactisation of Lavie, Claus and Alvis and epic aerial action scenes. It's just anime 'done good' is almost every way and has 'instant classic' written all over it.

Really great series so far. We're up to about episode 18 or 19 (can't remember).

Only problem is that the ending isn't meant to be too good, so I'm not too optimistic about seeing the last episodes. But anyway, so far, it's been great. The characterisations are really stellar.

Well out of the eight Last Exile episodes ive seen so far ( cant wait for the third UK release ) I certainly find this one of the most wonderful series I have ever watched.

The world, the atmosphere , the charecters are all enchanting I get a real rush from the high speed combat , and the charecters endear themselves to me so I am also gripped to the plot in general.

I really cannot wait to see what happens next!

I have also been really enjoying the series so far, the story seems to capture the viewer unlike most anime these days and for the creators, it is something to be proud of.

I have loved this show so far. I have not found anything to really nit pick with this apart from slightly poor CG animation in disc one. The Vanships did not move convincingly in a couple of shots but they seam to have over come that problem by the episodes in disc two. Looking forward to future episodes and seeing how the story pans out.

Last Exile seems like one of those shows that everybody who sees agrees its a masterpiece, but yet it isn't as popular as other, less outstanding series of the same time. The animation on the Vanship scenes I found to be brilliant. The battle scenes, though, are a real visual feast.

I was worried when looking at the forum that no one was going to have mentioned this wonderful series, but luckily the love prevailed!

Its definetly an underrated series. Heaven knows why it isn't more widely discussed.

Like what happened with 'Full Metal Panic', I went on a spending bender around October last year and got addicted to this series. I even got someone who knew nothing about anime into it by watching this with them.

Odd comparison, but this was like a modern day equal to what 'Orguss 02' was - its agreed its popular but yet not talked about much.

:-D

Been looking at this series for a while now every time to I go to buy it I pull back not sure of whether to invest in it or not.

But after reading your recommendations I am now off to order myself some dvd's..... This forum is costing me a fortune, oh well nevermind

That's the problem isn't it? You go on a forum like this and you end wanting more, more, more!

I know I do anyway. Not that I'm greedy.

Seriously though, I don't think you'll be disappointed. Top draw my verdict for this was. :)

I'm just glad I got my mortgage before I found this site or else I think my credit rating would be shot

Last Exile is generally pretty good. Its one of those rare animes that actually looks different and the story is solid. The minus points are slightly muted ending and the time it takes for the plot to get going.

I also didn't think the villianess got the horrific end she deserved (I have sadistic standards though hwhahahaha!  ).

The best bit about last exile is the ending. It builds up for so long, yet never drags. Despite the long build up the ending remains un prodicable and tense. Ace anime

Is there a box set available for this yet? I hate having to fork out for each individual series...call me tight if you like, but it ain't cheap!

Brilliant series!! I had an obsession for it one time.

All characters have different personalities, which is rare in anime. The animation is smooth and beautiful, and the soundtrack really brings out the fantasy feel to it.
The ending is a tad dissapointing though, you'll see why, and it really annoyed me how (PLEASE dont read this if you haven't finished yet!!) one pilot tells Sophia it was her name Alex whisphered before he died I think it spoilt some of the substance.
