Hi all,
Well, the quick rundown is that My name is Steve, I'm a lead database administrator, I'm in my early 30s, I play guitar, I play MMOs and I love a wide range of music from technical death metal to prog and electronica (Just don't ask me what's in the charts right now!).
Back in my teens/early 20s I was big into anime. I watched classics like Ghost in the Shell, Wings of the Honneamise and Neon Genesis Evangelion alongside some of the 'sillier' series like Tenchi Muyo and Oh my Goddess!. As real life took it's terrifying toll on my psyche I mostly forgot about my love for anime and relied on games (usually MMOs) for my escapism.
By chance though, I was looking through Netflix a few weeks back and a rich seam of anime appeared out of nowhere. I had the TV all to myself and after flicking through a few synopsis I decided to try Sword Art Online. I'd never heard of it before but the MMO setting sounded interesting. Well I was hooked from the start. What an awesome show. I made it through the first series in record time and am chomping at the bit to see the second one. I'm now half way through Death Note which is just as good, so many twists.
I have remembered what I loved about anime. The fact that producers can take a risk with outlandish or niche story ideas without the massive production costs of a Hollywood film or AAA TV series. I've been browsing through this forum for ideas on what to watch next and thought I'd be as well join since there's a lot of UK people on here.
I used to be a member of the neo-anime.org forum a long time ago if anyone remembers that.
Anyway, nice to meet you all, hopefully I can contribute to the forum in some way
