Kanon (2006) licensed by ADV?

Death Scythe
ADV have a high and low bandwith trailer for Kanon on their website. What more evidence is needed for a license, expect a press release soon. :)

Well, fans were unsure if Air (and thus Kanon by proxy) would be a success or not, due to a differing target audience. Looks like ADV didn't have any doubts on the matter, however.

Great news, unfortunatley i won't ever listen to the dub because the original VA was perfect in my opinion. I don't think that any other VA could top it.

I guess the sales figures for the first DVD of Air have been pretty good then :)

Anyone's thoughts on both Air and Kanon being brought over to the UK? (I'm sure Hugh's going to be asked the question numerous times at Ame :D )

Personally I'm hopeful but doubtful, as I'm not sure there would be enough interest here.
On ADV's current titles Utawarerumono is probably the only thing coming even vaguely close in genre (and thats really pushing it)
Revelation look to have done quite well with Rumbling Hearts and Moon Phase though, so perhaps the audience is there?

Not that I know, but I think Revelation just release what Funimation wants them to. It's no skin off Funimation's nose if it doesn't sell well here, our industry is tiny compared to the US.
Air seems to be doing very well in the US, because it's a different kind of genre to anything else, so I have a feeling it will come to the UK, even though ADV UK said they would release things that they know will do really well. The AIR cover art is enough to make someone pick it up though, so who knows. I actually don't know what I'm talking about now so I'm going to go.

Air vol 1 isn't released until next week, but the fact that these have appeared (although the links don't work anymore) indicates that ADV probably has the series. The fact they've even bothered to do these means they must be at least very serious about considering it.

Don't expect a UK release though as ADV don't have UK rights for Air.

Not yet, but you'd be surprised what can happen if there is enough interest ;)
That's kinda what I'm angling for; the likes of Air and Kanon are very niche and ADV are taking quite a risk with the venture; I'm interested in just how much of a market there is for them in the UK (a predominantly action based market).
Some people were quite surprised at how well Negima has done over here, so just how much is the UK fanbase changing?

When I heard Shuffle! is being licensed by Funimation, my hopes rose. Not that I care much about Shuffle!, but it gave me hope that such a small market niche (anime based on PC games) would increase in size. Now that Air is doing well, my optimism increases. Even if it is only released in the US, I know a UK website that sells region 1 DVDs and my DVD player can play region 1 DVDs, so I have no worries.

I'm waiting for the day when they announce Da Capo. I know it's a lot to ask since a lot of westerners will find the concept of Da Capo creepy, but still...*crosses fingers*

Da Capo's been out for 4 years now :( Great series though.
