K-ON! Volume 1 (Ep 1-4): Out 29/08/11 For £12.99

K-ON! Volume 1 has appeared on play.com listings with a release date of 29/08/11. It contains the first 4 episodes and has price set at £12.99, which is presumably the RRP. If £12.99 is indeed the RRP, then you should be able to buy it online for more discounted price. If MangaUK follow their current release plan for K-ON!, then the next 3 volumes should be out in 2 month intervals. A complete Blu-Ray box set of K-ON! is also schedule for release at some point in the future.

I don't think they had any choice but to release it in singles. Licensor requirements and all that.

Want Blu-ray, but around a tenner after discounts is impulse buy territory.

You just had to mention my greatest weakness...

I've never watched K-ON! before, but for under £15...

how do beez get away with it then?

and blu-ray....... that'll be atleast £19, it's a boxset remember

I'm not sure exactly what you mean with the Beez comment, but all the evidence points to Manga having no choice but to follow Bandai's release format (i.e. four singles). You could no doubt trace it all back to the Japanese side, either because the license was so expensive or because the licensor feared the reverse importation monster.

I wouldn't blame Manga if they forget about the Blu-ray release for this one... Bandai are royally screwing it up in the US(what's new!), and that's besides the licensing requirements meaning a song in volume 1 has to be replaced.

The US Blu-rays have lossy audio.

Hidef images with DD 2.0 Stereo sound at 192kb/s

And when Manga release Blu-rays, they usually just stick a Manga logo at the front of the US discs.

Manga stated on their twitter account some time ago that they have to release singles because of sublicensing it from bandai.
means they are not allowed to be faster than bandai with the series. so it was singles on DVD now or the whole series as a box in 2012.
but then people would ask why there is that big of a delay...

yeah.
But I don't know if going DVD singles is hindering them, since the BD version has still to wait here.
I'm skipping the german release at the moment (and the Manga UK for the same reason) because there are no BDs. But I can wait until early next year to buy Mangas BD version of K-On. It should be cheaper than bandais and it cant be any more flawed I guess

I am playing the waiting game for this one and will wait until 2012 for the boxset! stupid **** bandai.....

Although Bandai suck, it's not their fault on this one. Manga have to keep behind them. Plus, they probably can't afford BD's.

I'm guessing it's really the fault of legal nonsense.
