Hello. I've just signed up to the forum.
Seeing as I'm here I may as well give people a quick rundown of my anime history.
My earliest anime experiences were back in the early eighties during my preteen years (I'm in my early twenties for those who are interested). Anyway, I remember watching an anime series known as "Vultron" and "MzZinger-Z" (I'm not sure if the spelling on that is correct) and the style stuck with me.
I got into anime in earnest during the mid nineteen nineties when my brother first purchased Akira. Though at the time my mental development wasn't on a sufficient level to understand the story and characterisations (that sounds a bit cold doesn't it?), I was so blown away by the animation and imagery that I decided to pursue the interest myself.
The Guyver series cemented my interest in anime and during most of the nineties I purchased a lot of the stuff. I have fond memories of Cyber City Oedo 808 particulary.
However, come about 1998 / 1999 when the UK anime industry entered what could be best described as the "great depression" era my interest remained but my pursuit of it faltered.
Since 2003 / 2004 my interest has gradually resurfaced as the UK industry has finally become healthier and I'm more into it now than I was ten or so years ago. So much so that I decided to join a forum (which happens to be this one, obviously).
Whereas once upon a time my main "thrills" (sorry if that sounds a bit corny) were from action sequences and what not (wat can I say? I was an angry child!) my focus on anime has shifted more towards stories, characterisations, imagery, animation and artwork. Action sequences are the icing on the cake, not the whole meal now. I also guess that anime allows me to keep a bond to my childhood (mech shows particulary) but add a lot of "mature" (I don't like using that word, different people define it in different ways) themes and content.
So anyway, here I am. I believe I have a fair grasp on anime but I suspect the majority here know a considerable more about it than myself, so you'll have to forgive me if I ask dense questions occasionaly.
Have you fallen asleep let? You have? Shame.
Anyway, just thought I'd declare myself. I hope to contribute where I can.
Bye for now.
