I'm going to post a news article about this tomorrow, but thought some of you guys might like to watch this now.

It's a Jonathan Clements seminar on anime erotica (basically, he's talking about hentai) at Swansea university. I haven't watched/listened to it all, but it seems fairly interesting and cerebral, well worth a look; just a few minutes in, he's already talking about how newspapers like the Daily Mail ruined the reputation of anime in the UK by making it all seem like sleazy crap.

Right, I'm off to watch the latest episode of Kaiji ;)

"Its offened assumed most fans of japanese animation are perverts"

I already knew the reason for Japan's sexual trends, but I still don't like it. And this is one of the reasons I am half/half a closest anime fan (I broke out a little at the start of uni :p Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann will do that...its just so good). If I told my friends to go watch anime, they'd just come back to me saying all this stuff about cleveage and panty shots.etc and I'd get brandished a right dirty pervert. One of the main reasosn I'm more interested in shows like Hellsing, TTGL, Evangelion and Berserk, I get rather annoyed with all the fan server floating about.

I just lend my friends Ghibli movies - they're about as far from fan service as you can get.

As for the presentation, it was interesting - and a lot more about the general anime industry than the... icky stuff. Jonathan Clements seems a lot cooler than he's made out to be on the Cagliostro DVD - from that, I thought he was a toff. I kind of laughed when I realised they had cut out the clips, though. I bet a lot of people stopped watching then XD

I carried on, he pulled some funny jokes here and there. Loved it when he said "tenticles" and a bunch of guys laughed, and he says "there are all the anime fans!". Bit harsh on them guys :?

That was worth the watch. :) Thanks Paul!
If only all lectures were presented that well, I'd probably like contextual studies. Mind you, this is on a 'sketchy subject' so there's probably a lot more to comment/joke about.

I'm sorry aren't we?

Wel worth watching, i wish I had lectures like that at uni, the most anyone in class ever said about anime (well when it wasn't me preaching) was the Tenicle Rape argument that gets thrown around so much its getting to be as old and unfunny as Englishman, Irishman and Sottishman jokes.

It was at an animation festival and as he said at the start, they asked him to specifically talk about "erotic" anime. Whether we like it or not, hentai is one of the more interesting subjects to cover because it's an almost exclusively Japanese thing to animate pornography.

hey dont get me wrong... im all for hentai, it doesnt tickle my pickle personnally, but if people wanna wack one off to toons, god speed!

I don't know if it's unique to Japan now. It's certainly caught on in the West, many mobile ring tone companies now have erotic pictures of Family Guy and the Simpsons albeit disturbingly.

It's definately catching on here.

I watched the whole thing last night and it was pretty good. He showed a couple of clips from some lesser known anime but sadly they were out of shot. I've got Sensualist which is a good one, but I'd love to know where he got ahold of Cleopatra - damn him! *shakes fist with jealousy*

I've never seen it but I'm a sucker for Tezuka's output so it'd be really cool to catch it sometime.

I watched this as well. Shame the audio was so poor I had my speakers pegged at full and still it was low level. Also I wish this had a downloadable version that didn't have the clips cut out as it would have made more sense that way. But over all a good lecture.
