Is this DVD a bootleg?

Magical Girl
I bought the first four seasons of digimon of ebay, when i open the first season the slipcover and front of the case both looked discolored, when i opened it there is a disk slot were the booklet is meant to slide in and i have been watching unboxings and have not seen one like it yet, they are region one but play in my xbox 360

Also volume 8 at the back of the case which is meant to be on a holder

Hmmm I'm not too sure. The discs look identical to the official discs from those pictures. Maybe after the first print run with a slipcover finished, this is a newer cheaper one in a different box or something? Do you have the link to the original eBay listing?

Taken from a review from the TRSI site...

Once it shipped the package the eight disc collection came in was about the size of some multi-disc game cases on ease to access disc holders.

Sounds like what you got. Did you get a booklet with it?

Having seen your latest post, it seems less like bootlegs and more like secondhand masquerading as new...

I had the same thing happen to me with a Red Dwarf DVD through Amazon marketplace, had a booklet missing, nonstandard case and scratched discs, but the discs were legit. Still got a refund on them. I'd get onto e-bay about it.

A bootleg would have fewer discs, so it's more likely that those sets you got are legit and the case might be what the distributor got from their supplier for that set but the set might not have had a leaflet or booklet included (it might have had a card that the seller removed).

That's a legit release for a few reasons:
- Digimon Seasons 1-4 Box set does exist (it came out this year)
- The discs have the company logo on them, Bootlegs don't do that.
- The Booklet is part of the Box set and you've stated that yours included one as well.
- If the discs are in different order it can happen with legit products, like Kaze put disc 1 in disc's 2 place on my Code Geass DVD set and vice versa.

That set does not come out until the 22nd october, also the problem is the case and booklet you get are really discolored and disk 1 and 8 are meant to be on a panel like all of the others, watch this video to see were disk 1 and 8 are meant to be and then look were they are in my pictures

It's not unusual for packaging to vary between print runs, especially for low end releases. Or perhaps the seller received the brick damaged and replaced it with another? If it was a lot cheaper than buying it new, it wouldn't be surprising if it's had a rough life since the time it was bought (even if that was relatively recently).

Anyway, if you paid by Paypal you're covered no matter what the seller says. And eBay will usually take your side even if you didn't.

I've never heard of bootleggers cloning the real release so closely that they copied things like the region code and the licensor logo. They usually add 'value' by removing that kind of thing.

The item was advertised as brand new, a disk from season 2 had scratches on and everything is really really faded

He could have also replaced the case because a recurring problem with the Digimon sets is that they won't shut properly. I own seasons 1 and 2 and if it weren't for the slip cover my season 1 would never close. Fortunately my season 2 isn't like that.

Complain via ebay as item not as described, although it does mean you will have to return via tracked means and be out of pocket.

In coms with the seller make no reference to feedback

This has been sorted i have been refunded, i offered him to come and collect them as if they were counterfeit i would rather not post them, he told me to destroy them so i disposed of them this morning. this thread can be closed now :)

But from the way this thread was going, I thought it had been clarified the discs you had received weren't counterfeit?

I still did not know for sure though and i will not have anything counterfeit in my anime collection!, as i said it has now been sorted the seller told me to destroy the items so i did
