Is all anime equal, or is some anime more equal than others?

I don't think all anime is equal but I also think there's a strong disparity between what publishers/committees think their series is worth & what the majority of uk consumers, interested in that particular anime, are willing/happy to pay.

It's a good distinction. ie. Cowboy Bebop - you could argue as the finest anime of all time, but as I'm sure as others have pointed out, its age + position in the mainstream consciousness also posit the argument that it should be available cheaply. So then there's a distinction between artistic 'value' and monetary 'value'.

I think it's more that the main target audiences of different anime series are not equal. Not to say everyone who buys cheap Naruto boxsets won't be interested in this sort of release, but the crossover between those groups is pretty small and it's much more likely that people who will buy releases like this will also buy cheap releases, not the other way around.
