<a href="http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/interview/2007-05-30/john-ledford">Anime News Network have published</a> an interesting and honest interview with ADV co-founder John Ledford.
Covering a broad range of topics, Ledford discusses how his company went from a regional importer of Japanese video games to a globe-spanning anime distributor and producer, along the way positively commenting on the current and future state of the worldwide anime industry.

Very interesting read from someone so high up in the industry, especially about the "crash" in the market 3/4 years ago.

Skimmed though the interview, probably quite intresting. . .nothing too pull me in and read it all though.

It mostly coveres the industry and how they get thier products, What happened during the dip in the market and how that affects business today.

If your interested in how the licensing business works with the industry it's a very interesting read.

Interesting indeed. I noticed he answered the more controversial questions very delicately - and quite honestly too, I thought. These corporate types seem to be learning how to go about press releases and interviews as well as learning how to run the businesses themselves! It was quite a shock to hear how bad the recent 'slump' was though.

Given a lot of the trash ADV were licensing during 2005/6, it's no surprise they had to slim down. They were basically picking up anything.

Also, in the question where he mentions a show that took two years for them to license and eventually release was probably Kurau: Phantom Memory - an excellent but totally under-seen anime from Studio Bones.

I'm just glad ADV are carrying on with their manga titles they put on hold. I've been waiting too long for new Yotsuba and Gunslinger Girl with no explanation why they were delayed.
