Illegal downloads?

Hi there! I'm new in the UK so i don't really know anything about this here.
In Spain it's illegal to download anything from the web, but they don't really look after people who do it and they don't mind if you watch the things online but, how is that here? Can they know when you are downloading something? And watching it online is illegal as well? What do you do for see the news animes and mangas? Has anyone EVER had any kind of problem with this?

It's against the law and also a very poor way to show support for the anime industry.

To see anime online perfectly legally, Crunchyroll is the leader in terms of service to the UK. If you look around at other topics on the forums you'll see links to legal manga sites such as Jmanga as well as the other legal streaming sites which are slowly chasing Crunchyroll, such as Viki and Anime On Demand.

Please note that most subtopics relating to illegal downloads or illegal streaming are explicitly against the rules of this website and forum.

I know it's a poor way to support something i like so much, but i'm a poor person.
I asked because in spain we have a lot of websites that are free where you can watch online all kind of tv shows and movies (you can have a premiummembershio paying) so i decided to ask before doing something illegal here
i would love to be able to buy all the animes and mangas i like, but sadly i can't, so this is the only way i can do this things
thank you for the links, i think i'll join crumchyroll

Good :) I think they have Spanish support on a few series, too.

You can use this code if you want a 48-hour free Crunchyroll trial: SRZYGK5Y64D (if someone else snags it you can PM me for a new one).

Another thing worth noting, Funimation's youtube channel has some shows available for free legal watching. Not a huge number (You'll get a lot of "this show is not licenced for your area" stuff) but it's another way of watching some anime online for free and legally =)

I thought they blocked it in the UK?

which brings me to a good question

obv it's illegal to mention downloading links, but what about proxy's so you can watch shows in the us

surely that's no different to linking multiregion blu ray players

Proxy servers seem like a bit of a grey area in terms of legality to me. Technically if something on the website is only available to US viewers then you could be breaking their terms and conditions if you bypass that. It could also mean you're open to theft of copyrighted materials maybe... Copyright law can be quite convoluted so i'm not sure.

I'd tend to agree. You're not stealing anything nor are you doing the creators out of money by buying official DVDs from other regions or watching a legal stream via proxy. Both are just ways of exercising choice in a global free market - something consumers in today's digital age will continue to create regardless of attempts at regional market protectionism. Problem capitalism?
