I'm doing 2.5k word essay for my Humanities class. It's about how aid is helping developing and third world countries to develop their economies.

SO i'll need to get peoples opinions on this subject, so I can put it in as a discussion/opinions section of my essay.

I've asked on other sites who don't do this but,.. ffs PLS USE PROPER GRAMMAR.
 
It's for GCSE coursework so they'll search Google for the phrases I use.

This has to be my own survey and investigation.

You can still borrow sources WITHOUT copy and pasting, that's what they're there for.

Plus there's only so many different stances on this issue, and one person's opinion will already be on the internet, so you could just save yourself the time and visit the goog.

Isn't the PC term 'Less Economically Developed Countries' (LEDCs). Used to have that one drilled into me in Geography class...

International Aid is an interesting thing. It'd be very easy to say 'yeah, that's a good thing', because who doesn't want to help those who need it? But that's kind of the problem, because the entire process is often actually little more than a national exercise in getting a warm fuzzy feeling. Most people don't really care where aid comes from, what it is and where it goes to, so long as it is given at some point. Development Aid itself is supposed to be some kind of reaction to that, because more is done to tackle grass roots problems instead of just heaping a load of rejected MEDC junk on poorer nations. Still, such Aid still has to be careful, since it nearly always relys on taking current MEDCs as models of development: What if the specific structures of societies like our own are as out of context and useless as 10,000 cans of Heinz Soup in a country with no tin-openers?

It is, but it's a stupid phrase. They're the same thing.
 
here is a simple rundown for you

aid is sent by big countries to help smaller ones

said smaller countries goverments get ahold of the aid and sell it to produce weapons.

Weapons are then sold to terrorist or given to their military.

Terrorists then proceed to attack the big countries, or in the other case, the military of the small country is sufficient to ensure that a peacekeeping force is unworkable

in short

aid is pointless in the current world order
 
You have to teach the people to produce their own food etc, not just keep given them supplies when they're inevitably going to run out after a couple months.

MEDCs give high-tech machinery that the LEDC people can't use/ fix, so they end up paying the MEDCs for repairs and training. LEDCs always owe money to the MEDCs.

Watch Lord of war =) Although it's a movie, you will get a better idea about guns.

AID is not pointless, pointless is giving money away. giving money to a charity that overlook what happens with this money is great. Just sending the money to the corrupt government is pointless.

In my POV, fairtrade is the best form of AID rich contries could give to the smaller ones. The second one would be culture /education aid such as scholarships and stuff.

That's my 2p's

Aid isn't always money and perishables. Aid can consist of things like tools and education, which are much more important.

My point exactly. Money will go to the pocket of corrupt politicians, perishable will be sold and become more money for the pocket of corrupt politicians, education? how can you take education away from someone?

Tools are still going to be either sold for money or some hi-tech tools will become more of a burden to mantain than actually become useful, as ryuzaki pointed previously....

Education will produce new methods, processes, tools, machinery, etc, but it will take a while.
