I Challenge You... to save money!

Hello everyone,

As a lot of you may now, I've been writing about saving money in my blog and today I've decided to go back to basics with a mini-guide on saving for beginners.

I've decided to set a challenge to see if people can save money for one day and to make things more interesting, I've decided to participate in the challenge myself too.

All you have to do is try to save as much money as you can in one day and let me know how you get on. My new blog entry is now up with tips on getting started.

Anyway, I will let everyone know how I got on tomorrow, but I wanted to see if anyone else from the forum was up for the challenge.

For more details my blog is here:

Anyone who does decide to take part, I wish you the best of luck!

I should really try and do this, because I just recently realised how much I spent a week on bus fares/food/drinks/misc crap. D:

I may try this.

Thats a pretty good idea actually, i think the only thing i have going for me is the fact that i came to uni with a lot of money, before getting my student loan, so i still have roughly 3/4 of what i started with. it doesn't mean i can spend spend spend though, even though the temptation is there, i just need to try to avoid the city more often and i should be fine.

A few of my friends were telling me how it's extremely hard to resist that temptation; just having all that cash given to you and knowing that it's gotta go towards food etc...

That didn't stop them from buing **** with it though.

It hasn't exactly stopped me either, i still went to town a couple weeks back and spend a fair bit, and i was planning too today if it wasn't for the fact i got up late.
Food, i'm not to bothered by, since i'm stuck with catered(not what i wanted but it has its merits), so its only other wee bits i have to deal with, and leaves me with a bit more to spend.

speaking of fags... here i am :D

i actually seen this post on friday and over the last few days ive actually been trying to save moneys, saved about £40 woop woop.... and all i had to do was keep an eye on my spending and what i was spending it on :/

Wow - I've been really impressed by the responses and well done skikes, I think you saved more than I did. But I do understand how difficult it can be to save when you're a student so I thought, let's try it and find out.

This is the wrong time of year for me to be saving money, I wish i could but with christmas shopping all last week my bank account took a serious hit to its preverbial balls.

Plus i am at the NEC Bike Show on friday and I never leave there without spending a few quid.... I want a new bike boohoohoo

I haven't spent a proper amount of money in ages. Got a bumper student loan sitting in my account plus an assload of savings, no temptations to spend at all. I download all my entertainment, have no travelling costs (girlfriend always comes up to see me, and all my lectures are on campus) and my nan gives me a load of free food once every 3 weeks.
