How to obtain To Love Ru?

Hey Guys,
As you can probably guess from the title, I was wondering how I could get my hands on the original Japanese manga volumes for the To Love Ru (and maybe even To Love Ru Darkness) manga series' within the United Kingdom?

Basically, my big concern is if that I order them abroad, would customs find them and my face be printed in the Daily Mail along with accusations of being a paedophile with a schoolgirl fetish (not to mention the criminal charges and all that)? Or am I over thinking things?

As much as I would like to see a localised release, Viz Media probably wouldn't touch To Love Ru with a barge pole and being a Shueisha series, I doubt any other publishers will be able to license it.
 
Why would To Love Ru specifically be a problem? There's been lots of schoolgirl-heavy fanservice manga and anime published here, and To Love Ru runs in a shounen publication (and therefore won't have any actual porn), so I don't foresee any issues. Bear in mind that I haven't actually read any of it, though =D

It's not like customs routinely inspect packages anyway. I've had one opened in almost 15 years of importing, and that was (probably) because the US seller hadn't attached a customs form.

Well, while To Love Ru might slip through the cracks, I'm very sceptical about To Love Ru Darkness - it was enough to get the Tokyo Youth Healthy Development Council to look at it. Sure, they said it didn't violate the new standards, but...

Where would the best place to import it from be anyway?
 
If you're really worried you can get a UK-based company to import it and buy it from them at additional cost, e.g. Japan Centre or somewhere like JP Books http://www.jpbooks.co.uk/ (they have a physical shop in Mitsukoshi in London and should be able to assist if you send them an e-mail). It's likely both shops already have some stock of the series to hand anyway since it's quite well known.

Given some of the stuff we all import on a regular basis though, I'd just pop it on a normal overseas book order and assume I'd be fine. I think the Daily Mail writers would be very confused if they ever opened one of my particularly special packages ^^;

:D I, like maes, also have it all imported and I'm not on any government watch list. Not for To-Love Ru anyway...

Actually saying that, I still have that *awesome* 2008 calender they did for To-Love Ru which you pointed out to me. A different manga illustration for each week. I think I, admitedly quite sadly, worked out that I can use it again in 2013!

It's still head and shoulders above most calenders I've received/used over the past few years.
 
Hmm...if I was to import it myself, where would the best place be to get it from (in regards to service, price, etc)?
 
Service - Amazon.

Price - bk1.

Depends if you want to work your way through bk1's all-Japanese website, or take the easy route through Amazon and pay $$$ for courier shipping (bk1 offers SAL).

If you wanted to go proper in-depth, you could probably get it cheaper by ordering second hand from Book Off Online or somewhere and having it shipped via Tenso, but that is some effort for potentially not a massive saving.

Well I ordered the new Darkness artbook... So if I end up in the papers you'll know it was me heh!

Seriously though I wish that someone would licence To Love Ru for the English speaking world, even if it was just the first part and not Darkness. I believe TokyoPop did do a french release... But alas I fear it's a pipedream. It amazes me how many harem titles get released nowadays yet not this one, which was one of the more famous ones...
 
To Love Ru Darkness has to be the series I'm looking forward to the most this season.

I still haven't purchased the Sentai DVD releases of the earlier seasons though. Them lacking the OVAs irks me. I wonder if To Love Ru Darkness gets good streaming figures, would Kazé consider picking the anime up?

I'd guess that the reason the manga hasn't been released in English yet is because as a Shuiesha title, wouldn't Viz Media get first dibs? Not sure they'd publish an ecchi, which would have to be under their "Shonen Jump Advanced" label, right?
 
Well the Venus artbook arrived and customs did indeed open the package... Wonder what the inspector thought of it? :grin

Even more extreme than the main series? Why did they inspect it anyway? I thought books were covered. Maybe their was incorrectly labelled or something?
 
I expect they were checking it to see if it contained drugs or something... The vast amount of packages I get must make them think I'm smuggling heh...

As for the content theres nothing particularly sexual, but let's say some of the illustrations, especially the monochrome ones leave just about nothing to the imagination, and Mikan seems to be a prime offender...

The quality of the artwork is most excellent though, the pictures of all the harem in wedding dresses is very inspiring!

Viz do seem to be sticking to the safer titles it seems, perhaps they don't want anything ecchi associated with their line up, or they don't think it has the market share it'd need?
